New Features
Installation of color management files from the GMG Cloud
The full package of ProofStandards, calibration and spot color sets for ColorProof versions 5.7.2 and
newer is available in the GMG Cloud. This package (CP5_Data_5.7.2.pkg) of color management files has
been removed from the setup. This way the installer has been reduced by 800 MB and saves download
time. ColorProof will only download color management items which are actively used and appear in the
database.
Example: When a new ProofStandard is added to the database, ColorProof connects to the GMG Cloud
and downloads this ProofStandard into the database.
In case your ColorProof-PC does not have internet access, we offer the full installer on our website:
Prerequisites + Application + Data package. Please copy these files to the ColorProof-PC and follow the
installation instructions described above.
Epson SureColor P-Series
Supported printmodes SureColor-P6000/7000/8000/9000
• Contone
• DotProof
Supported inkset SureColor-P7000/9000
• GMG ColorProof supports SC-P7000/9000 printers using the violet ink set: C, M, Y, K, lc, lm, lk, O,
G, V. (V)
• GMG ColorProof does not support the light-light-black ink set. (LLK)
GMG is adding support of the Epson SureColor-P7000 and P9000 printers with violet ink set, giving you
high-quality proofs with the largest possible gamut. Using this solution you are well equipped for printing
excellent standard proofs – e.g. simulating ISO coated v2 or PSO coated v3 – as well as perfect spot
color simulation.
The ink sets provided by Epson for these printers use either the light-light-black (LLK) ink or the gamut
extending violet (V) ink mentioned above. Our proprietary GMG printer driver compensates the loss of
the light-light-black (LLK) ink in the highlights without any perceivable loss of quality.
Our recommendation:
• Epson SureColor-P7000 and P9000 (V) for customers requiring high quality simulation of CMYK and
spot color content with the “little extra in gamut” (10c with violet ink set)
• Epson SureColor-P6000 and P8000 for customers requiring high quality simulation of pure CMYK
data (8c ink set)
License
The license for the new printers is already included in the existing 4UP and 8UP printer licenses in
ColorProof 5.7.

Epson Spectroproofer ILS30
The mounter and measurement unit of the Spectroproofer ILS30 is interchangeable between the printers
of the Stylus Pro x900 and the Epson SureColor-P series. This is supported by Epson. The Stylus Pro
7890/7900 Spectroproofer ILS30 can be used in the SureColor-P6000/P7000 and the Stylus Pro
9890/9900 Spectroproofer ILS30 can be used in the SC-P8000/P9000.

Nesting within the measurable area of the Epson Spectroproofer
The printable area of the Epson printers is larger than the area in which the Spectroproofer can perform
measurements (the measurement head cannot move as far to the left as the print head).
The nesting algorithm has been optimized to make sure that all control strips for inline verification are
placed within the measurable area of the Spectroproofer.
• Up to now, the nesting functionality placed media wedges within the printable area, without
consideration of the measurable area. It happened that media wedges were printed, but not measured
and verified.
• The new nesting option ensures that all printed media wedges are placed within the measurable area
of the Spectroproofer and can be verified and labeled.
Auto-Switch improvements
ColorProof 5.7.2 contains some optimizations for the auto-switch. This functionality is now applied for all
manual and workflow jobs in ColorProof, independent of the nesting strategy.
What is Auto-Switch?
“The automatic selection of measurement condition M0, M1, M2 based calibration sets and
ProofStandards”
ColorProof reads the measurement condition from the used GMG Calibration set or GMG ProofStandard
and switches the measurement mode accordingly. The measurement condition is already present in each
calibration set and ProofStandard, therefore the auto-switch will be available immediately after the
ColorProof update. No changes to your existing configuration are required.
An example: When using an Epson x900 series printer with GMG semimatte 250 and a spectroproofer
with ILS30 for printing the ProofStandards ISO39 with inline validation, the calibration will be done as
M1 and ColorProof will then switch to M0 for ProofControl-Inline validation.
“Automatic selection of correct Spectroproofer Inline-control strips (Epson Stylus Pro x900 –
Spectroproofer ILS20 and ILS30)”
Based on the measurement device information setup for the printer, ColorProof selects the correct
control strip layout for the spectroproofer ILS20 or ILS30. For remote proofing, this means that the
sender system can have a different spectroproofer than the remote site. Additionally, it makes load
balancing possible in proofing systems with spectroproofers ILS2 and ILS30.
Please activate the option “Automatically detect measurement device” to use the auto switch feature on
systems using the Epson Spectroproofer ILS30.
Neue RIP Engine - Adobe Print Engine 3.8
With GMG ColorProof5.7.2, the Print Engine has been updated from 3.3. to the latest version 3.8.
WAN-IFRA Newspaper 26v5
GMG ColorProof 5.7.2 contains a GMG Proofstandard for Newspaper 26v5 for the following printers:
• Epson Stylus Pro x900, x880x890, x890x880, x800
• Canon ImagePROGRAF iPF
• HP Designjet Zx100, Z5200
Please find detailed, additional information about this standard on the WAN-IFRA Website.
Further improvements in ColorProof 5.7.2
• Delete button for Consistency Check
• Default password for WebClient
• Add collapse and expand button in workflow overview
• New ColorProof installations only have the folder "ProofControl Output" for measurement files
("C:\Users\Public\GMG\ColorProof\ProofControl" does not exist anymore)
• Low network quality warnings can be ignored by scheduled AutoCalibration Wizard
• Improvement export items with special characters
• Green tick mark for unknown spotcolors on the channels tab in the manual job manager has been
removed
Tips and Tricks
Compatibility of Epson SureColor-P series and Epson Stylus Pro x900/x890 profiles and spot
color sets
We do not recommend using x900-profiles and/or x900-spot color sets on a SureColor-P7000/9000
printer. Using a Stylus Pro x900 10c profile on a SureColor-P printer 10c print mode wil lead to visually
wrong results. For the same reason, we do not recommend using x890-profiles and/or x890-spot color
sets on a SureColor-P6000/8000 printer.
Conversion of Stylus Pro x900/x890 profiles
Contone profile (MX4) conversion is possible: ProfileEditor: Tools > Convert Profile. In case you are
using specific noise values in a profile, you may need to check and if necessary decrease the values.
Conversion of Stylus Pro x900/x890 spot color sets
Spotcolor database (db3) conversion is possible: SpotColorEditor: Measure > Convert.
When converting MX4 Epson x900 proof profiles to the color space of the SureColor printers, we found
that a reduction of the noise frequency by ca. 25% leads to a most comparable result. The intensity
does not need to be adjusted.
Resolved issues
The following technical issues have been resolved in ColorProof 5.7.2.462/461. Please note that the list
describes the problem, not the solution.
Autoswitch of measurement condition
When the spectroproofer ILS30 of the x900 series was defined in ColorProof as M1 or when it was set to
automatically detect measuring device, the verification of older standards (e.g. 39L) was done in M1,
and not switched automatically to M0. [57477]
Blank service monitor
ColorProof jobs were not printed in some cases. The service monitor did not display any services.
[55511, 55941]
ColorProof installed on D-drive under Windows 10
Calibration with the CaliWizard (i1 Pro2) was not possible when ColorProof was installed on the D-drive
under Windows 10. [57634]
I1 pro2 calibration wizard M1 not working
Calibrations with an i1Pro2 in M1 mode caused an error “Action failed. Check device connection” [55208]
Start AutoCali if calibration set status is changed to ‘not calibrated’
The option to start the auto calibration after failed verification did not work. The reason was that the
status of calibration set remained in "calibrated" after failed Proof Standard verification. Therefore the
auto calibration did not start. [56860]
GMG Updatefolder size too large
Profile download installed files on every startup into .\updatefolder. At some ColorProof systems this
folder got very large and the hard disk ran out of memory. [56870, 56974, 56992, 58849, 58490]
TIFF Jobs can't be printed from history
Jobs containing Tiff files that were been moved to the designated backup folder could not be re-printed.
[54338]
After update: Remote jobs were always printed on sender system
Even though the option "Print on local printer before exporting" was not active, the jobs were printed
locally after updating a 5.6.1 installation. [54728]
Extended paper tint area – update issue
The defined settings for extended paper tint area were deactivated after updating to ColorProof version
5.7.0. Nested jobs could not be processed and displayed: “CollectNxN error” in the job list. [58168,
58145, 58858]
Extended paper tint (outer only) cut image / PDF content
In jobs using extended paper tint, the image was cropped at the lower edge by the amount of paper tint
extension. [56646, 57990, 58431, 58781, 58787]
Overlapping images when using extended paper tint and automatic placement
Selecting “automatic image placement” in manual jobs that contained images using “extended paper
tint” caused the images to overlap. Printing was possible after manually re-arranging the images.
[58657, 56648]
Technical error on start after update
In a specific case ColorProof could not be started after updating the version 5.5.1 to 5.7.0. A “technical
error” message was displayed. [58655]
Small line appeared on print out
On Epson x880 printers, a small line appeared below on the proof, when the label was rotated. The
workaround was to place the label on the bottom of the proof. [55387, 57512, 57347, 57982, 58000]
1bit image rotated CCW resulted in moiré
Rotating 1-bit images counter-clockwise resulted in moiré. [53754]
Workflow – Customized screening
The customized screening detection defined in the workflow was not applied to the workflow jobs.
[57236]
Deselecting the Automatic cut command has no effect
Deactivating the option “Automatic cut” in the advanced printer settings of the manual job manager or
the workflow properties had no effect. Regardless of the setting the job was printed and cut afterwards.
[57948]
Epson SureColor-P with Epson driver, custom calibration and PCI results in error
Epson SureColor-P printers errored "Measurement Failed: Unknown Error" in ColorProof attempting to
measure any ProofControlInline control strip on a job which uses a custom calibration (Epson driver) and
has reference XML linked. The job attempted to measure, fed the media out, cut, then errored. [59421]
SmartHotfolder Rules longer than 50 characters were not saved
A character limitation to 50 in the SmartHotfolder rule set did not allow to search for ProofStandard
names with more than 50 characters in the name. [59995]
Hotfolder with conflicting path
It was possible to save and export a ColorProof hotfolder with a conflicting path, e.g. input path and
backup path for unrecognized files identical. [60045]
SpotcolorEditor: "Save as" dialogue saved as "Old format" db3 by default
Spotcolor .db3 files are saved in the old format as default. The file format had to be changed manually
at every “save as”. [57181, 57756]
Esko/Pantone live: Spot colors not displayed
Esko-based spot color sets did not access the inkbook. This did not affect accessing the inkbook directly
via XMP data in normalized PDFs. [56034]
Spot colors missing in preview if changed to 'All to CMYK'
The preview in the manual job manager was wrong when the he RIP settings were changed to 'All to
CMYK'. The spot colors were missing in the preview, they were however printed correctly. [53332]
Spot color optimization wizard error on system set to “inch”
The spot color optimization wizard did not work when the system settings of ColorProof were set to
“inch”. An error was displayed when it started calculating. [54958]
Nesting without label did not work on system using ‘inch’
Nesting with both image and job label deactivated did not work on system using imperial measurement
(feet/inch). [58215]
Remote Proofing – Custom job label
A custom label, created in ColorProof 5.6.1 and updated to version 5.7 could not successfully be
transferred to the remote proofing side. It caused the remote jobs to fail. The workaround was to re-
create the label. [57193, 57200]
Remote Proofing – Limit for file upload list
It was reported by different remote proofing users, that at a certain point in time, remote proofing did
not work anymore. A large red cross appears in the file upload window and ColorProof stopped working.
As soon as the list of file uploads is emptied, remote proofing works normally again. [58898]
AutoCaliWizard cannot be started after ENV restore
In a specific case, the AutoCaliWizard could not be started after environment restore. The error message
‘Internal Error: There is no calibration for the given ID within cache’ appeared. [57802]
OpenColor ProofStandard - Print order
When a job was printed with an OpenColor ProofStandard and a custom spot color database, the print
order was not the defined custom print order, but the channel order of the image (.sep or PDF). [55631,
55992]
OpenColor ProofStandard – Special character in image file name
Image files with special characters in the file name were not processed with an OpenColor
ProofStandard. The jobs displayed the error OpenColor service: Wrong or missing parameters. [53986]
OpenColor - Channel mapping to spot color in db3
OpenColor workflow jobs using channel mapping to spot colors in the ColorProof db3 ran into the error:
“Nesting error: Printing ink "" cannot be found in selected OpenColor standard”. [54950]
Job export with dynamic MXN profiles invalid
Embedded/read-only job based on dynamic OpenColor Profile were not exported properly.
The MXN file was not included in the exported job [55905]
Roland VS - Dotproof
Dotproof Jobs were not printed on Roland VS printers. An empty sheet was feeded. [51607]
Epson WT7900 - No white in image control strip if white channel mapped by ruleset
The white undercoat was missing in the control strip, only if the spot color white was mapped by a rule
set to ‘MX White’
Imposition proofer properties not populated
After updating a 5.6.1 installation to 5.7.0 it was possible, that the imposition proofer properties were
empty. [57798]
No Matte Black Ink Set selectable for Epson x600/4000, x800 and x880
Changing the ink from photo black to matte black was not possible. The setting always reverted back to
“photo black” [58057]
Profile Editor: Measurement device was not saved in mx4
Changes to the measurement device in the common tab of an MX4 were not saved. The selection
reverted to “Spectroscan” after saving and re-opening the file. [55142]
ProfileEditor (French version only): Error "Vous n'avez pas de license valable pir créer ce
profil."
The error was shown when creating a new MX3 using the File -> New MX3 menu item. [55181]
ProfileEditor: Error "Data Cannot be loaded, because of invalid format. Number of items: 3"
The error was shown when using GamutViewer to compare target/current of a Colorserver Profile.
[57994]
