Warmer Weather As the weather continues to warm up, it is a timely reminder that students must bring a hat to school. If a student does not have a school hat, they will have to play in the covered areas. We also encourage students to drink plenty of water and a full drink bottle each day can help. Upcoming Events Over the next couple of weeks we have the P&C annual general meeting, the Radio Group begin there broadcasting, the Bouncing River Kids have their final session and we have the Mini Mart. There are lots of amazing things happening at Glenroy Public School in Term 4. Sean Scott Principal Mini Mart If you have any donations for this year’s Mini Mart White Elephant Stall (not clothing), please bring them to the front office.

Mini Mart is on Friday 29 November, Week 7 12pm till 1:45pm There will be games, food, drinks, beauty salons and much more. Prices range from 20c to $2. 5/6 Hibiscus Poetry We have been researching current events that have happened over the past few weeks in Hibiscus. Our two big focusses were Uluru and the NSW bushfires. With the information we found we then wrote poetry to show our understanding and express our feelings towards these two big topics.

Uluru Poetry Uluru is the heart of Australia We have to care for it It is part of the earth And earth takes care of us

By John Thio

Oh Uluru, people have climbed you Oh Uluru, Oh Uluru, have you ever felt this pain? You didn’t do anything wrong You just stayed asleep without a peep Oh Uluru, I’m sorry that people have climbed on you All that disrespect, they should be ashamed Today we have claimed they should have respect and reflect

By Stevie Ellison

Uluru is a famous landmark It has been here for generations We respect it and care for it Because it is the heart of Australia We used to walk upon it But not anymore It truly belongs to the Anangu People And we share it with everyone who respects it

Bushfires

Walking through severe heat All the crackling is now a beat Gusty winds moving fast I wonder how long we’ll last Burning embers But all us members Feel we need to yelp The bright blaze Made me haze We are all volunteers We put in all our tears This Australian curse Is getting worse If we all put in The end will begin

By Sonny Hynes

We need to save our earth Because the flames are killing it The flames are ferocious They are getting higher They are burning down houses So we need to get out of there

By Jasper Halpin-Steven Ground zero is bone dry Apocalyptic weather has doomed us all Embers are spreading rapidly Some have died More are missing Fire burns what is So life can start a new

By Neville McKenny

As our sunburnt country set a blaze All the Aussies left a dead-beat gaze These fires were thick with the colour of ochre They arose above the trees Spreading the tiny but so dangerous embers Of a thousand burning gum nut tress Our Firies, SES and Police all gather to the catastrophic fires Our bone-dry country is the most unpredictable place The fires shall die down And we will lend a helping hand to the people Who were left in this horrifying inferno

P&C NEWS The countdown is on!

Make sure to keep your eyes out for our Christmas raffle books heading home. With lots of wonderful hampers available to win, why not take some of the stress out of making sure you have everything ready for Christmas day lunch or dinner. Included in our hampers are snacks, drinks, decorations and even tableware! At $1 a ticket it’s not an opportunity you want to miss, and you can’t forget about a prize for the family with the most raffle books sold. Today our students took part in the yearly Lap-a-thon. Fresh air, lots of fun and exercise saw us raising funds for our school. From subsidised excursions, new items for class rooms and the play grounds, and our gift stalls, all money raised help the P&C to give right back to the school and students. Students are asked to collect the money from their sponsors over the weekend and return it to the school on Monday 18th November. Winners will be announced at the morning assembly on Monday 25th November. The P&C AGM takes place on Wednesday 20th November at 6:30pm. This will sadly be our final meeting for the year. The evening will be a shared meal so we ask that anybody who wishes to attend, please bring along something to share. Sarah Haslam President and newsletter writer for the P&C Ph: 04 0528 1900

There’s only 41 more days left until we see that jolly man in a red suit, load up his vehicle, fuel up his crew and fly around the globe delivering gifts to everyone. But there’s still a list of things to be ticked off before his arrival!
