Switzerland are leading brand for centrifuge hydraulic
driving system. GN and Viscotherm has been jointly
working together to develop the Full hydraulic drive
centrifuge for international clients to meet the highest
standard.
The hydraulic bowl and scroll drive system drives both
the hydraulic motor ROTODIFF and the bowl of a
decanter centrifuge from hydraulic pump unit by two
hydraulic oil circuits.
The advantage of the FHD centrifuge is for use in high
temperature ambient for heavy mud with flexible bowl
and differential speed. The compact one skid design
makes it easier for rig up.

VISCOTHERM FHD System
The full hydraulic system consists of A the Hydraulic
Pump Unit, B the Bowl drive hydraulic motor, and C the
Scroll drive (Rotodiff).
The hydraulic pump unit A feeds hydraulic oil to the
scroll drive C and the bowl drive B by means of two
separate and individually independent operating circuits
An electric motor A1 drives the combined pumps A2 and
A3. Each operating circuit is equipped with its own
hydraulic pump and its own controls. The pump unit
contains all setting devices and safety valves, as well as
pressure gauges.
With this system, the bowl's rotational speed as well as
the scroll's differential speed may
be manually adjusted independently from one another,
continuously and infinitely variable during the
centrifuge’s operation.

The ROTODIFF is a low speed, radial roller piston hydraulic motor with a constant
displacement. The pistons exert a tangential force on the cam, causing a differential speed
between the bowl and the scroll. The housing H of the ROTODIFF is attached to the
centrifuge bowl and the rotor is attached to the scroll by means of a splined output shaft H1.
The ROTODIFF contains a transfer seal D, which permits the hydraulic oil to
flow efficiently from the stationary to the rotating part.

The ROTODIFF is a radial roller piston motor. The curved cam a is provided with an
undulating runway where the rollers g are pushed against.
Via the pistons e the rollers are provided with radial propulsion, producing a torque with
respect to the rotor b by deflection of the rollers on the curved cam. In turn, the pistons are
loaded with pressure by the cylinder chamber f through the distributor c, which is connected
to the curved cam. Consequently, the single chambers are alternately connected by and
subjected to pressure (work phase) and run-back (interval phase).

Operation Control Setting bowl's rotational speed: At the adjustable throttle valve, the rate of
flow moving to the bowl drive can be continuously adjusted. The flow rate is
directly proportional to the bowl speed. The quantity of oil can be read off the
flowmeter.
Control of the scroll drive: By means of the adjustable throttle valve, the
differential speed can continuously be adjusted. The rotational speed of the
scroll drive (differential speed) is directly proportionate to the quantity of oil
flowing to the Rotodiff, which is indicated by the flowmeter.
If the preset pressure value of the clearing-out pressure has not been
attained, the hydraulic system operates based on the set differential
speed. Once the clearing-out pressure is exceeded, the differential speed is
increased automatically, thereby clearing out (removing)
the mass contained in the centrifuge.

Monitoring & Safty Oil Level shutdown point: Once the low level has been triggered, a level
alarm is activated and the complete drive is shut down instantly.
Temperature alarm point: Once the temperature of 70°C has been exceeded,
a temperature alarm is triggered. The HIGH TEMPERATURE alarm will sound,
and the bowl drive will be shut off.
Manometric point p2: Whenever the pre-selectable manometric value p2 has
been exceeded, a pressure alarm p2 is triggered. The level (amount) of this
alarm threshold may vary according to the process type and requirements
involved. Feeding of product to
the centrifuge is stopped.
Manometric point p3: Whenever the pre-selectable manometric value p3 has
been exceeded, a pressure alarm p3 is triggered. The level (amount) of this
alarm threshold may vary according to the process type and requirements
involved. The bowl drive will be shut off
All above signals are linked to an internal monitoring logic so that any break of
a cable advised by an input signal triggers the appropriate emergency function.
Monitoring/surveillance of the signals is ensured during the entire operating
sequences.
