Go-Hawk Football Exists to Develop:

We Value:

PHILOSOPHY: WHY DO WE EXIST AS A PROGRAM?

• WE FULLY BELIEVE THIS PROGRAM CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER. THE BELOW NOTES EXPLAIN WHAY WE EXIST AS A PROGRAM.

• First and foremost, this football team needs a lot of STUDENTS. We would describe a “student” as one who takes his or her academic life seriously. If you don’t succeed in the classroom, you will never have the opportunity to succeed on the field or in life. By succeeding, we are not talking about getting all “A’s,” but we are expecting each one of you to give your best effort in school and that you are PROUD of your best effort. The “process” is greater than the “product.”

• Secondly, this program needs a lot of ATHLETES. Let’s face it, every one of you reading this has some level of athletic ability. The sport of Football at WSR needs every single one of you. Each of you will become a better athlete with the appropriate amount of work. Often times, people mature at different rates and the goal is to still be playing Go-hawk Football whenever that time comes and not walking the hallways wishing you still did.

• Most importantly, we think this team needs a lot of real TEAMMATES in order to reach our dreams. You will be on a team of some kind for the rest of your life so you’d better get comfortable with it now. Great teammates are selfless. They care more about the team than themselves. This is becoming harder in today’s day in age of promoting oneself through social media.

• What does a great teammate look like? Here is our personal definition: “A great teammate is a person who treats himself and everyone he meets with respect.” This includes peers, teammates, friends, opponents, teachers, siblings, and parents. If you can’t treat these people with respect in everyday life, how will you treat your teammate in the heat of a big game? Furthermore, a great teammate is 100% drug-free. If you think I am joking about this point you can stop reading right now and go find another team to belong to! If you are currently not conducting yourself in this fashion, then we as coaches will do everything in our power to help you be the person you want to be. A great teammate is all about others and celebrates their success.

• Right now you are probably wondering “where do I as a player fit into this whole thing?” It’s simple. We want you to ask yourself, “Am I the best student, athlete, and teammate I can be?”

• I want you to remember that there are a lot of teams with a lot of athletes, but these athletes might not be students or teammates. These teams may win once in a while on the field, but these same people will lose in the “game of life.” As coaches, we feel it is our duty to mold you, the player, into the best Student, Athlete, and Teammate you can become. If at the end of your time here all you have improved is your athletic ability, then we have failed you as your coach.

• We don’t talk about winning because we can’t control our opponent. We can only control our own behaviors. Winning is a by-product of Players, Parents, and Coaches becoming phenomenal teammates who continually put others ahead of themselves. As we told you the first day of 3rd grade football camp, “No one is Bigger than the Go-Hawks.”

• In case you haven’t noticed already, we are looking for a special type of person to be a member of Go-Hawk Football. You will have to make sacrifices your peers won’t make, but you will reap a lot of the benefits that your peers won’t have a chance at. You will be looked-up to by youngsters in the communities. You will be admired by your classmates. Show everyone what hard work and determination can accomplish. We leave you with one question: “Are you smart enough to know that you might not know it all?”

STUDENTS—ATHLETES--TEAMMATES

• PROGRAM GOALS

• We want every single senior who leaves our program to say his time with us was one of, if not the best experience he had while attending WSR.

• We want every single kid to have fun playing the best game ever created.

• We want every single kid to feel like he is part of a great organization of men and leave us a better Student, Athlete, and Teammate.

• We want our coaching staff to work together, not against each other. Same basic offense and defense from top-down, 7-12.

• We want our stands to be filled every Friday night. Home and away.

• We want our kids to graduate and CONTINUE LEARNING AT THE NEXT LEVEL WHATEVER THAT MAY BE. They are all capable.

• We want to see 60% or more of our kids on the honor roll.

• We want to see every single incoming freshman in the parent’s night line as a senior.

• We want to teach, teach, and re-teach the FUNDAMENTALS!!

• We want TO MAXIMIZE POTENTIAL. PERIOD. ZERO WASTE.
