Hungry
Hungry, I come to You
For I know You satisfy
I am empty, but I know
Your love does not run dry
So I wait for You,
So I wait for you
I’m falling on my knees
Offering all of me
Jesus, You’re all this
Heart is living for
Broken, I run to You
For Your arms are open wide
I am weary, but I know
Your touch restores my life
So I wait for You,
so I wait for You
I’m falling on my knees
Offering all of me
Jesus, You’re all this
Heart is living for
(Repeat)
So I wait for You,
So I wait for You
So I wait for You,
So I wait for You
I’m falling on my knees
Offering all of me
Jesus, You’re all this
Heart is living for
(Repeat twice)
Broken, I run to You

“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Introduction
Today, we conclude our study of Acts by examining Paul’s appearances before various
authorities and his final journey to Rome where he would await an audience with
Caesar.
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Paul before Governor FelixActs 24:24-27 Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul talked
about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” At the same time he was hoping that Paul would
offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him. When two years had passed, Felix was
succeeded by Porcius Festus, but because Felix wanted to grant a favor to the Jews, he left Paul in prison.
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Paul Appealed to Caesar before FestusActs 25:9-12 Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, said to Paul, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there on these charges?” Paul answered: “I am now standing before Caesar’s court, where I ought to be tried. I have not done any wrong to the Jews, as you yourself know very well. If, however, I am guilty of doing
anything deserving death, I do not refuse to die. But if the charges brought against me by these Jews are not true,
no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!” After Festus had conferred with his council, he declared: “You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you
will go!”
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Paul before King Herod Agrippa IIActs 26:27-29 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do.” Then Agrippa said to Paul, “Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?” Paul replied, “Short time or long—I pray to God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains.”
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Shipwrecked!Acts 27:1, 14-15 When it was decided that we
would sail for Italy, Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to a centurion named Julius,
who belonged to the Imperial Regiment… Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the
Northeaster, swept down from the island. The ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind; so we gave way to it and were driven
along.
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Shipwrecked!Acts 27:41-44 But the ship struck a sandbar and ran
aground. The bow stuck fast and would not move, and the stern was broken to pieces by the pounding of the
surf. The soldiers planned to kill the prisoners to prevent any of them from swimming away and
escaping. But the centurion wanted to spare Paul’s life and kept them from carrying out their plan. He
ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land. The rest were to get there on planks
or on other pieces of the ship. In this way everyone reached land safely.
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Miracles on MaltaActs 28:3-5 Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as
he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not
allowed him to live.” But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Miracles on MaltaActs 28:7-9 There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the
island. He welcomed us to his home and showed us generous hospitality for three days. His
father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after
prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him. When this had happened, the rest of the sick on
the island came and were cured.
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Paul Finally Reached RomeActs 28:16, 30-31 When we got to Rome, Paul
was allowed to live by himself, with a soldier to guard him. For two whole years Paul stayed
there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. He proclaimed the
kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without
hindrance!
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Paul’s Eventual Death2 Tim. 4:6-13 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Do your best to come to me quickly, for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry. I sent Tychicus to Ephesus. When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls, especially the parchments.
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Paul’s Eventual DeathThe Bible does not say how or when Paul died, but Ignatius, the Bishop of Antioch (38-108AD),
wrote that Paul was martyred. According to Church tradition, this took place by beheading in Rome during the reign of Nero around the
mid-60s.
“Paul’s Long Journey to Rome” Acts 21-28
Personal Application
Paul and his companions endured many trials and tribulations in
sharing Jesus with others. What do you risk in living out and sharing your faith with others? What are
you willing to endure for the Lord?
