God’s Word for this Week First Reading: Ezekiel 33:7-9 Second Reading: Romans 13:8-10 Gospel: Matthew 18:15-20

Scripture Focus In the first reading Ezekiel has been appointed by God as “watchman.” Such a person had to keep watch and warn the city of approaching danger. For Ezekiel, person responsibility is important. The prophet must warn individuals as well as the group. The Gospel reading treats this same theme. Matthew is the only Gospel writer to speak of relationships and responsibilities within the Church, He also offers practical guidelines for fulfilling these responsibilities, Serious community decisions are to be made only after serious prayer. Wisdom must be sought from God and from the presence of Christ in their midst.

Life Focus

2. Some conflicts are part of any ongoing group. How does your small church community handle conflict?

3. Relate a time when your prayers were answered but not as you expected.

“Inspired by the Spirit, Women Respond to God’s Call”

WIDOWS/WIDOWERS/LOSS OF CHILD SUPPORT GROUP: Our next meeting will be Tuesday. Sept. 12th at 5:30 pm downstairs in the Upper Hall. The cost is $6 for the dinner. We ask if any widow/widower or parent that is interested in coming and has never been to a meeting before, to please call the office and give your name. We want to make sure we have plenty of food for everyone. Our numbers are growing quickly and so are the friendships. We also ask that if any widow/widower or parent wishes to join the quiet fellowship dialogue with our facilitator Celia that they call the office and a private meeting can be arranged. We will also be having Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 4:45 to 5:15pm for those who wish to have some quiet time with the Lord.

ST. PATRICK’S SUPPORT GROUP FOR SEPARATED AND DIVORCED St. Patrick’s Church will begin another 13 week DivorceCare workshop that supports separated and divorced people with video, discussion and workbook components. Many people don’t understand the hurt that comes from separation and divorce. That’s why many of your family and friends don’t fully understand what you are going through and don’t know how best to help you. We do. Our DivorceCare group is led by people who have been through divorce and successfully rebuilt their lives. It will be every Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the office boardroom, beginning September 11th, 2017 until December 4th, 2017 . You can join at any time. Please call either Brian at 705-822-5875 or Anne at 705-207-1257

Many believe with Phyllis Tickle, author and theologian, that every 500 years the church cleans out the

attic and has a rummage sale. Five hundred years before that the east and west church was severely shaken by the Reformation. Five hundred years before that the east and west church split. The Nord500North Conference is the fruit of examining what is unusuable, dusty or broken in the church attic and bringing in something new. We commemorate the Reformation and look to a new and hopeful future. In a fast changing world, to be rigid or inflexible no longer serves the mission of the church. To be fearful, judgemental, or content to sit in our own “comfortable pew” slows down the work of Christ’s vision and goal.

The Nord500North Conference is presenting Christ’s vision of unity in the face of diversity, We seek to reach out and get to know each other across the broader church. Nine different denominations are working together to launch this Conference. We will learn some or our history, seek to strengthen each other’s faith, and find ways to work together in the community for peace and justice.

An important aspect of the Confernce is the inclusion of Indigenous people. They have taken part in the planning and graciously given teachings. We look forward to their participation in the prayer service and our participation at the sacred fire. Again, we seek to reach out and get to know each other, to further the work of reconciliation and justice.

On Sept. 2st and 22nd, at the Holiday Inn Sudbury, come and help us rejoice that God is doing a new thing.
