EMPLOYEE AND EMPLOYER RELATION: TheRole of Internal communication

Communication can be done at three levels:

In fosys :

The Infosyshas set up an internal portal (similar to Facebook) to give

employees a ‘voice’ intrigued me. According to the news report, the

intranet called the ‘Infy Bubble’ is supposedly a platform for disgruntled

Infoscions to vent on.

Employee Voice page is an orphan since it has very limited links and

people taking active interest to update the topic. The definition on the

page talks of the spheres of influence – refers to the participation of

employees in influencing corporate decision making – “employees aregiven a voice through informal and formal means to minimize

conflict, improve communication and encourage staff

retention through motivation and fair treatment.

Encoura ging of accountability for periodic conversations:

Penalize supervisors who don’t make listening a priority

Take the supervisors to task if their team members surface frustrations

on the wrong forums instead of first discussing concerns with them.Unless there is skin in the game employees will always feel let down.

Recognize people for surfacing concerns

To prevent employees from not sharing issues on their minds externally

ensure you have a culture of openness and transparency. It helps to

demonstrate commitment to the cause by recognizing employees for

bringing their issues to the table. Storytelling their episodes also help

percolate the messages further.

Remember that with a great deal of cynicism by the younger generatio

in India for numerous governance lapses in the public sphere every

organization, a best employer or not, is under watch.

 Technology Usage:

Infosys has innovated an iiIntranet is a web-based Business to Employeand Employee to Employee communication tool developed by InfosysInternational Inc. It is a modern, flexible and fun to use way for businesleaders to communicate with their employees, and for employees tocommunicate with each other.

The foundation of iiIntranet is a web-based repository of companypolicies, procedures and communication tools and contact lists that iseasy to update and is readily available to all employees. In addition,iiIntranet has features for employees to provide feedback and questionto the company’s executive team and human resource professionals. Italso provides capabilities for posting broadcast announcements, shorttraining topics, and personal interest stories. It can be linked to thecompany’s corporate web site and email system and other informationrepositories and communication resources.

iiIntranet is offered as a host application implemented at a company’ssite. Infosys International is prepared to implement services and ongoinmaintenance services to support the quick and trouble-free set-up anduse of the system at reasonable cost.

External Communication:

Infosys enables its enterprises stay on top of change, helping them

connect, collaborate and communicate better by addressing theirchallenges in three key areas: business transformation, acceleratinginnovation and efficient operations.

Operational agility: Communications have typically grown throughconsolidation; and the addition of bolt-on solutions to an existinginfrastructure for handling new services. The result? Complex, unwieldy

and often isolated operating models. Competing with more agile playerwill require enterprises to simplify key operational requirements such acustomer understanding and responsiveness, on-going cost reduction,usage-based pricing, and bundled offerings.

Continuous innovation: The lines are blurring between wireline, wireless, cable and satellite companies — they are interconnected like

never before. Enterprise success is now linked to differentiating a newintegrated portfolio with innovative services.

organisation. A lot of opportunities are also provided for people to ‘lear

new things on a constant basis. The HR team has invested in classroom

training as well as e-learning infrastructure. This allows the team to run

customised management development programmes, in association with

an environment of ‘empowerment’. ‘Appreciation’ is then done through

regular performance assessments and appraisals.

• Communication in Groups

The young managers at Godrej (those who have spent less than 3 yeawith the company) are nominated for cross-functional experiencethrough the Young Executive Board. This is meant to help them developstrategic business skills at a young age.
