Day and ight, arth an Sa Selected Scripture from Genesis 1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Then God said, “Let there be
light”; and there was light. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.
So the evening and the morning were the first day.
God made the firmament and divided the waters under the firmament from
the waters above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament
Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
Then God said, “Let the waters be gathered together into one place, and let the
dry land appear”; and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering
of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the
herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit”;
and it was so. So the evening and the morning were
the third day.

Sun and Mn, Birds and BatThen God said, “Let there be lights in the heavens to divide the day from the
night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years.” Then God
made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to
rule the night. He made the stars also. So the evening and the morning were thefourth day.
Then God said, “Let the waters abound with living creatures, and let birds
fly above the earth.” So God created great sea creatures and every living thing
that moves, and every winged bird. And God saw that it was good. And God
blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas,
and let birds multiply on the earth.” So the evening and the morning were thefifth day.
Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature: cattle and
creeping thing and beast of the earth”; and it was so. And God
saw that it was good.

Look again at that first sentence in the Bible: “In the beginningGod created the heavens and the earth.” Can you even imagine the
power it took to create the billions of stars we are still discovering
with telescopes? Can you even begin to understand the wisdom it
took to give order to the whole creation—from the smallest particle
to the swirling galaxies of outer space?
With God nothing is impossible. No task is too tough, no
problem is too difficult for the Creator of the universe.
Don’t ever underestimate God’s power.

Adam and Ev Selected Scripture from Genesis 1–2
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to
Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea,
over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and
over every creeping thing on the earth.” So God created man in
His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and
female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said tothem, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have
dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over
every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it
was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
And on the seventh day God ended His work, and He restedon the seventh day from all His work. Then God blessed the
seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all
His work.

Do you know why God made you? It is the greatest
discovery you will ever make: you were created to know
God and to be His friend forever.
We were not made for ourselves; we were made for
God. We are not here by accident; we are here because
God put us here—and He put us here so we could know
Him and love Him. God wants you to be His friend!

Th irst Sin Selected Scripture from Genesis 2–3
God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. [He
said,] “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat.”
When Eve came to the garden, the serpent told her that they should not believe what God
said. So Eve disobeyed God by eating the fruit; then Adam did the same—and their lives
changed forever. Ashamed, they hid from God. But He went to talk to them.“Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
“The woman whom You gave to be with me, she
gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
God said to the woman,
“What is this you have done?”
“The serpent deceivedme, and I ate.”
God made them clothes
and sent them out of Eden.

Adam and Eve weren’t robots. They were free to choose to love God but alsofree to choose not to love Him. If they had not been free, then their “love” for
God wouldn’t have been love at all, because we only truly love someone when
we freely choose to love them. From their first moment on earth, they chose
to love God.
But then something went terribly wrong. Adam and Eve rebelled against
God. They did what they wanted to do, not what God wanted them to do.
What happened in Eden happens to us every day. We all are guilty of sin
because we all choose our own way instead of God’s way. But when we admit
this to God and confess our sins, we take the first step toward choosing His
way—the best way.

Noah and d’s Rainbw Prmi Selected Scripture from Genesis 6–9
All the people on earth had forgotten about God and had become evil. But one man still
followed God. His name was Noah. God told Noah to build an ark, and He gave Noah very
specific building plans. God told Noah about a great flood to come and a great promise.
So God said to Noah, “I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into
the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
“And of every living thing you shall bring two into the ark; they shall be male and
female. And you shall take for yourself food for you and for them.”
Noah did according to all that God commanded him.
Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark,

you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before
Me. For after seven days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and
forty nights, and I will destroy all living things that I have made.”
It came to pass after seven days that the waters of
the flood were on the earth. All the fountains
of the great deep were broken up,
and the windows of heaven
were opened.

Noah and Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and
Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons entered the
ark—they and every beast and every bird. They went
into the ark to Noah, two by two, male and female;
and the Lord shut him in.
The flood was
on the earth forty
days. The waters
increased andlifted up the
ark, and it rose

Can you imagine what the people thought when Noah began
chopping down trees and building an enormous ark on dry land,
far from any ocean? Noah knew nothing about sailing the high
seas, and he certainly was at a loss as to how to build a boat, even
with God’s detailed instr uctions. But he believed God when He
said it would rain and the land would flood, and Noah faithfully
carried out God’s command.
Building a huge boat on dry land made no sense to Noah’s
human understanding. But when he obeyed God, Noah showed
that he trusted God, and God was pleased. Because of Noah’s
faith and obedience, God called Noah righteous and saved Noah, his family, and the animals.
Let us be as faithful as Noah was in the things God has called
us to do!
[God] destroyed all living things on the face of the
ground: both man and cattle, creeping thing and bird of
the air. Only Noah and those who were with him in the
ark remained alive. And the waters prevailed on the earth
one hundred and fifty days.

Then God remembered Noah and made a wind to pass
over the earth, and the waters subsided. The fountains of the
deep and the windows of heaven were also stopped, and the
rain from heaven was restrained.
At the end of forty days, Noah opened the window of
the ark. He sent out a dove to see if the waters had recededfrom the ground. But the dove found no resting place, and
she returned into the ark. He waited yet another seven days,
and again he sent the dove out. Then the dove came to him
in the evening, and a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her
mouth; and Noah knew that the waters had receded.

Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons, saying:
“As for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you
and with your descendants after you: Never again shall
all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; neveragain shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.
“I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be the
sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.”

Just imagine being aboard the ark in heavy rain for
forty days, riding the gigantic waves for months before
feeling the boat rest on dry land. Over the course of a
year or more, Noah’s family of eight experienced the
faithfulness of God’s protection, watched what God said
would happen really happen, and then saw the sign of
God’s promise—a rainbow—that meant the earth wouldnever again be destroyed by water.
Every time you see a rainbow, think about Noah’s
story and praise God for His power and goodness!
