Easter Sunday in April The Crystal Cathedral is filled with the beauty

of new life as we celebrate Easter on the Hour ofPower, Sunday, April 24, with Pastor Sheila SchullerColeman sharing the miracle of “TheEaster Story,” and Dr. Robert H. Schullerwith the “Land of the Living!” Plus, wonderful hope-filled music by the Hourof Power Orchestra, Crystal CathedralChoir, and special vocalists.

Surely Goodness and MercyWHEN WE WERE CHILDREN, WE ALWAYS HADdinner together around the family table. Dad wouldconclude the dinner with a shortdevotional and then we wereencouraged to sing a song as a family, and Dad alwaysencouraged us to sing it with gusto! So we sang, “Surely goodness andmercy shall follow me all the daysof my life, and I will dwell in thehouse of the Lord forever, and Ishall feast at the table spread forme…surely goodness and mercyshall follow me all the days, all thedays of my life!”

It was many years later that itdawned on me that these were thewords of Psalm 23. And what apromise was burned into mymemory from a young age—thatgoodness and mercy would followme—all the days of my life. I have seen that goodness exists

hand in hand with mercy. God’smercy, God’s forgiveness, God’sunconditional love—IS goodness. Toooften, we become disenchanted withGod and think He has not heard our prayers, or hasn’t beenpaying attention because nothing is going right. In other

words, nothing is going according to our plans. And so weare discouraged, floundering, even facing a faith crisis.Where is God when we need Him?

Goodness is not what happens to us. Goodness isresponding positively to whatever happensto us—no matter how difficult it may be.Goodness is viewing every problem as anopportunity to see God’s mercy at work.

Would you like to be able to say thatgoodness and mercy have followed youevery day of your life? The Lord is yourShepherd and, as you follow Him, goodnessand mercy will follow you. If you stumbleand fall, He will pick you up and you willexperience goodness and mercy. If you takeyour eyes off Him and stray from His path,He will search for you and find you and youwill see goodness and mercy displayed. Ifyou are attacked and hurt, He will rescueyou, deliver you, and heal your wounds. Maygoodness and mercy follow you—every dayof your life—until you dwell in the house of the Lordforever! What a promise!Claim it!

A Carpenter Came toSave Us... Help SpreadMercy and Goodness through“Houses of Hope”By Sheila Schuller Coleman, Senior Pastor

One of the last things Christ did beforereturning to heaven was to show what itmeant to be the “salt” of the earth byserving others. Jesus served people throughcompassionate acts of care and kindness. And He served His disciples when Hewashed their feet. Then He said, “Let thisbe an example to you. Go and do likewise.”

At the Crystal Cathedral, one waywe’re serving others is to be “salt shakers,”building houses for families in Ensenada,Mexico, that are currently living in shacksmade of scavenged wood and cloth. We

are prefabricating three loft houses on theCrystal Cathedral Plaza, and thentransporting and assembling them—in aday!—in Mexico. With four windows, alockable door, and a second story attic loftfor sleeping, each 12-foot-by-12-foot lofthouse gives a family basic protection andshelter from the elements. For less than$3,000 each, these homes will exhibit avisible testimony of the love of Jesus to the new homeowners and their entirecommunity.

To be a part of this loving and mercifulway to serve others in Christ’s name, go to

Dwelling in the House of the LordBy Jim Coleman

When Sheila and I were first engaged back in 1978, I was asked to joina few members of the Schuller family for a casual dinner out one

evening. Five of us—Dr. and Mrs. Schuller, their youngest daughter, Gretchen (then, 10years old), and Sheila and me—enjoyed awonderful meal together.

After eating, we got back into the car andDr. Schuller drove to a spot, at sunset, thatoverlooked Orange County. He parked, so wecould all see the vista, and turned off the engine. Then, the four Schuller family members, in nearperfect unison, began to sing:

“Surely goodness and mercy shall followme, all the days, all the days of my life…”

I remember my heart was deeply movedthat these people, this family

that I was just beginning to get to know moreintimately, would share their faith so openlywith such expression and deep and honestconviction. I knew Dr. Schuller could preachin a powerful way on Sunday morning infront of thousands, millions, of people. But,to see and hear him and his family, outsideof church …when the cameras were off,and no one was watching…communicatedto me a tremendous amount as to theintegrity of their faith.

Up until then, I had never done anythingquite like this. I was well acquainted with music, lotsof different kinds of music. About two years before this evening, I hadasked Christ to live in my heart—so my faith was relatively new, but VERYreal. I learned that evening that in our upcoming years and marriagetogether, Sheila and I, too, would make our genuine faith obvious to thefamily that we would have and raise together.

Surely, goodness and mercy do follow those who choose to dwell inthe house of the Lord…forever!
