GOING TO NEW ORLEANS
By Clare Hickey
Me and Dorian in the pillowsThe first day of our trip we were in Memphis, Tennessee.
We stayed at my dad’s friend’s condominium.
House on a swamp!Day two of our trip.
We drove into New Orleans. We saw houses built above a swamp. New Orleans is a city built on a swamp in Louisiana.
That is called King Cake
We had King Cake for dessert. It is a special Mardi Gras tradition. Each cake has a plastic
baby Jesus in it. The person who finds the baby Jesus has to make the cake the next year. My god-brother, Gabriel , found the baby Jesus.
Biking to paradesWe rode our bikes to parades in New Orleans on Sunday.
We went to parades to get beads. There were lots of floats at the parades carrying people throwing beads and
toys.
Parade float!
This is just 1 parade float.
Miniature pony
There were horses at the parades too.
Street car rideMe, daddy and Dorian and everyone else rode the street car on Monday night. We ate out for dinner and rode our bikes.
Mardi Gras and Costume Day
I was wearing make-up and birds and a mask for Mardi Gras. We went out and watched people parade in the streets. My
god-father bought me mochi, Japanese ice cream.
Tricycle wagonDuring Mardi Gras, people dress up in
