Club Presents Patsel’s Restaurant with Token of Appreciation
This month, Club officials met with the owners of Patsel’s Restaurant, Pat and John Atkins, to present them with a thank you gift for the many years of service to the Club and the community. The gift was a porcelain plate, which depicts the overall Boys & Girls Club mission, which is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. For many years, Patsel’s Restaurant has been a huge supporter of the Club.
“For the last 15 years, Patsel’s has been a great friend to the Club. This is just a very small way we can thank Pat and John Atkins. We hope the com-memorative plate reminds them of the numerous chil-dren Patsel’s has helped during the duration of the business,” stated Tricia DiBiasi Thomas.

Letter from the Officials
Dear Friends, In this report you will see just a small example of the numerous accom-plishments that took place at the Club over the past year. As you can see, regardless of the month, there is always something exciting going on. There has been so much over the past year; we could never mention it all! We would like to highlight a few special moments from the past year where our mission was acknowledged, where we acknowledged those who have helped us to promote our mission, and our mission in action. You will see more about each throughout this report.
n Strides in Community Awareness – We were honored to receive the Good Works Award from the Lackawanna County Commissioners. Their recognition of the programs and services the Club provides reinforces our creditability in this community.
n Honoring those who have helped us – The children of late Board Member, Joseph Van R. Clark, sponsor a true holiday extravaganza each year. This Thanksgiving marked the 10th annual celebration in his honor. It was a great opportunity for us to provide our members with a unique holiday celebration.
n Providing Unique Opportunities – We were proudly represented by Abram Harris in Philadelphia at the PA State Youth of the Year Pro-gram. Abram traveled to Philadelphia to participate in special events and meet with state dignitaries.
Thank you for whatever part you may have had in working with us. There are so many ways to become involved with the Club. We invite you to con-tinue your relationship with us as we value it greatly. We would also like to challenge you to become more involved. Whether you take a minute to like us on Facebook or stop in for a tour, your increased involvement would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for continuing to make us “The Positive Place for Kids!”

Rotary Club of Scranton Anniversary Celebration with Club February was a special month as The Rotary Club of Scranton held a design contest opportunity for Club members in honor of Rotary’s 100th Birth-day. The Club members were asked to design a birthday card to honor the Rotary’s 100 year celebration. The talented Everlyn Rex caught everyone’s eye with her design. Everlyn’s design was placed on t-shirts that each mem-ber received during a pizza party. All art supplies to create the cards were provided by the Rotary Club of Scranton. Our kids were so delighted to be a part of this exciting competition.

Thanks to Our Friend, Club Given a Brownie Party We’d like to send a big thanks to Rod-eric Moore for sending us a beautiful original poem about brownies that we shared with our Club members. As a special treat, we also threw them a brownie party where our Club Director, Rich Kasavage, shared Rod’s poem. We hope you enjoy it as much as our kids did!
La Ruse Gastronomique by Roderic R. Mooreis your brownie getting old? and is it kinda hard?are you about to take it out and toss it in the yard?desists, i say, and stay away from, throwing out that brick! You can still enjoy the thing – just try this simple trick.Put your brownie in a blender, and cover it with milk, turn the blender on awhile and mix ‘til smooth as silk. Then add vanilla ice cream and stir the stuff some more.now you have a chocolate shake! Go get a glass and pour!Mark my words, you kitchen nerds, and you’ll be wondrous wise.Cake may stale, and icing fail, but chocolate never dies.
Scranton’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Bars Donate to Club One of the biggest days in Scranton is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade! What a better day to give back to the community and the kids who need us most by collecting donations for them on parade day? This is exactly what four local bars did. Some bars added a dollar to the entry fee, others put out tip jars during the parade and others made a monetary donation. Combined, these bars raised a little over $1,700 to benefit the Club.
Pictured front row are Club members (l-r) Jasmin Salaman, Josie Gilces and alexis Savoy. Middle row (l-r) are tricia diBiasi thomas, and Club members Selena Savoy and london Montgom-ery. Back row (l-r) are don Surace, andy Gavin’s owner; John argonish, the Hilton Scranton general manager; and tony Frable, Morganz Pub & eatery director. 2014 Youth of the Year Revealed
We are proud to present our 2014 Youth of the Year – Abram Harris!
Abram received a $1,000 scholarship to a higher education institution of his choice after he graduates from high school. After the judg-ing, guest speaker and sponsor of the program, John Atkins, shared with the group why higher education is a wise choice to make after high school graduation. John, and his wife Pat, are the proud sponsors of this program.
Pictured is John atkins, program sponsor (l) with first-place winner abram Harris (r). abram partici-pated in the Pennsylvania State Youth of the Year competition held in Philadelphia and proudly repre-sented the Club. We are so proud of abram and all his accomplishments!
