FARES

• All fares are one-way and are paid in cash or by tickets and passes when you board a GCT bus. Neither fareboxes nor drivers make change, so you’ll need exact change to ride the bus.

• GCT tickets and passes may be purchased in person at the authorized ticket outlets listed on page 61 and also by mail order. The mail order form may be found on page 79.

• Proper identification is required for all discount fare categories. When boarding the bus, you must show the driver the correct type of identification to qualify for the discounted Youth, Senior, Medicare and Disabled fares. See page 60 for more information.

• Day and monthly passes are valid for unlimited bus rides for one passenger during the validity period. Monthly passes are valid from the first to the last day of month purchased.

• GCT accepts the following prepaid fare media and transfers issued by outside agencies: Go Ventura Smartcard, VCTC tokens, VCTC Transfers, CSUCI Smartcard, Ojai Trolley transfers and Metrolink passes. Additional rules and restictions may apply.

To know when you should arrive at a stop that is between the listed timepoints, use the time from timepoint before your stop.

Ventura Intercity Service Transit Authority (VISTA) operates seven regular bus routes and two dial-a-ride services. VISTA is operated by the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC).

VISTA provides service along highway 101 from Goleta to the Warner Center and along highway 126 from Ventura to Fillmore. VISTA also provides service to CSUCI campuses in Oxnard and Camarillo.

FARE PROGRAMS

IDENTIFICATION FOR FARESTo prove eligibility for a discounted fare, appropriate identification must be shown to the bus operator upon boarding the bus:

• Youth: proof of age (18 and under) or valid high school ID

• Senior Citizen: proof of age (65+)

• Seniors over age 75: proof of age (75+) or GCT 75+ ID card

• Disabled: Medicare card, GCT Disability ID card or ADA card

• Medicare Recipient: Medicare card

All ID cards used must be valid. Any offical document that shows the rider’s birthdate is considered proof of age. Examples of accepted documents include a DMV ID, a birth certificate, or an insurance card that shows a birthdate. A photo ID is recommended.

75+ PROGRAMSeniors aged 75 or older can ride for FREE, all day, every day, with proof of age shown upon boarding.

Seniors may receive a free ID card to use to prove their eligilibity for the program. To receive your free 75+ ID card, please visit our Customer Service Center at the Oxnard Transit Center. You will need to present proof of age to receive your card. Please call 805-487-4222 for more information.

GCT DISABILITY IDPeople with disabilities may be issued a free ID card by Gold Coast Transit to prove their eligibilty for a discounted fare. To receive a Disability ID card, an application must be filled out in advance. Applications are available at GCT’s Customer Service Center, on page 75 in this Bus Book and on our website, www.goldcoasttransit.org.

The application form must be completed by a physician or licensed medical professional, licensed optometrist (for visual impairments), counselor or social worker (representing a recognized organization for persons with disabilities). Another way to receive a GCT Disability ID card is for patrons who receive Social Security Insurance (SSI) to present their SSI reward letter as proof of disability.

Turn in proof of disabilty as noted above along with application form in person to GCT’s Customer Service Center at the Oxnard Transit Center to receive your GCT Disability ID card. Please call 805-487-4222 for more information.

GO VENTURA SMARTCARD

The Go Ventura Smartcard is a multi-ride pass that offers a flexible, affordable and secure way to travel around Ventura County. It is accepted on all of Ventura County’s bus systems, including Gold Coast Transit. The Go Ventura Smartcard operates as either a monthly pass or an e-purse (preloaded with money just like a prepaid phone card). HOW TO RIDE THE BUS

Bus stops are identified with a Gold Coast Transit (GCT) sign which lists the routes serving that stop. For the safety of our passengers, GCT buses only stop at designated bus stops.

Arrive at your bus stop at least 5-10 minutes early and stand near the sign, bench or bus shelter so that the driver can see you. The driver may not stop if you are not clearly visible.

The route number and destination of each bus is displayed on a headsign above the bus’s front windshield. Before boarding the bus, make sure it is the bus you wish to take. If you are unsure, ask the bus driver to assist you.

Please have your cash fare, pass or transfer ready before the bus arrives. If paying with cash, please have exact fare - drivers do not make change. Please see page 2 for current fares.

Passengers paying a discounted fare are required to present acceptable proof of eligibility upon boarding. Please see page 60 for identification requirements.

If your trip requires the use of more than one bus to reach your destination, ask the driver for a free, limited-time transfer slip when you pay your fare. (See “How To Transfer” for more details).

After paying your fare, please move promptly to a vacant seat. Seniors and people with disabilities have priority for the seats directly behind the driver. If seats are not available, move towards the rear of the bus and hold on to the grab rails.

About one block before your stop, pull the stop request cord or push the touch strip on the window frame to signal the driver that you want to get off at the next stop. Please be sure the driver has enough time to stop safely. If you are unsure where to get off the bus, tell the driver where you want to get off and ask him/her to announce the stop for you.

Please exit from the rear door. Gently push the touch bar on the doors to open them and hold the door handle as you exit the bus. Some buses have a yellow touch strip located on the back door – on these buses, touch the yellow strip to activate the doors. After you exit, stand to the side of the road or on the sidewalk until the bus has pulled away.

For your safety, do not cross the street in front of the bus and obey all traffic signs and signals.

HOW TO TRANSFERIf you need to use more than one bus to reach your destination, ask the driver for a transfer when you pay your fare on the first bus.

Transfers are free and can be used as your fare on any Gold Coast Transit bus, in any direction. The transfer is valid up until the last time shown on the transfer slip.

Passengers using daily or monthly passes will not be issued transfers, but may transfer to any bus in the system at any time.

If you are concerned about catching your connecting bus, notify your driver that you will be transferring and ask him or her to call ahead to inform the next driver. Please note that it may not always be possible to have the connecting bus wait.

BIKE LOADING INSTRUCTIONS

You are responsible for properly loading and unloading your bicycle. All bags, child carriers, water bottles or any other objects must be removed prior to loading. Always load from the curb side of the bus.

• Alert the operator that you intend to load your bicycle, then lower the rack by pulling the handle. (See above)

• Lift your bike on to the rack. (See above)

• Lift the support arm up and over the front tire. (See above)

• When leaving the bus, please advise the operator that you will be removing your bike and leave by the front door.

• When your bike is unloaded, raise the rack to the upright position.

Please also note that: • GCT is not responsible for loss or damage to bicycles.

• Each rack holds two bicycles with wheels 16 inches or larger in diameter. Bikes are accommodated on a first come, first served basis. If the bicycle rack is full, you may be asked by the operator to wait for the next bus.

• Bicycles longer than 80 inches (6.5 feet) and higher than 54 inches (4.5 feet) will not be allowed on the rack.

• Total weight must not exceed 250 pounds.

• Motorized bicycles are not permitted.

HOW TO FILE A COMPLAINTAny person who believes that he or she has, individually, or as a member of any specific class of persons, been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin may file a Title VI complaint with GCT. The complaint should be submitted by the complainant and/or his/her designee as soon as possible but must be filed within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination. For information on how to file a complaint, including obtaining a copy of the “Title VI Complaint Form” contact GCT by:

BUS SERVICEGCT buses are equipped to accommodate mobility devices that comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. GCT buses are low-floor models with fold-out ramps for mobility device access. If you need to use the ramp to board the bus, the driver will assist you. All GCT buses are capable of kneeling for easier boarding at the front door.

PASSENGERS WITH VISUAL DISABILITIES All transfer point bus stops and major intersections are announced by GCT drivers. If requested, the bus driver will also announce any other stops. SERVICE ANIMALSQualified service animals such as guide dogs are permitted to ride the bus. Service animals must be on a harness or leash at all times. They may sit on the floor out of the aisle or be held in the passenger’s lap, but may not block the aisle or occupy a separate passenger seat.

Securement policy • All buses accommodate scooters, wheelchairs, and similar devices up to 30 inches wide and 48 inches long. The device and user together must not exceed 600 pounds.

• GCT requires that mobility devices are secured to the floor of the bus. Riders who do not comply may be denied transportation, according to federal ADA regulations.This does not apply to devices that cannot be secured.

• GCT bus operators must secure the mobility device or ensure it has been properly secured.

• GCT recommends that mobility device users utilize lap and/or shoulder belts and riders using three-wheeled scooters transfer to a seat.

• Wheelchairs will not be transported in a fully reclined position.

WHAT IS ACCESS?

GCT ACCESS provides on-demand, origin-to-destination paratransit service to qualifying clients within the GCT service area. Eligibility is determined by how one’s disability prevents a passenger from safely using fixed route services. Clients are also eligible to use the service if they are 65 years of age or older or participating in the Senior Nutrition Program.

IDENTIFICACIÓN DE LAS TARIFAS

Para comprobar la elegibilidad para pagar una tarifa rebajada, la identificación apropiada debe ser mostrada al operador al abordar el autobús:

• Juventud: Prueba de edad (18 años o menos) o identificación válida de la High School/ Secundaria

• Mayores de Edad: prueba de edad (65+)

• 75+: Prueba de edad o GCT 75+ ID

• Discapacitado: Tarjeta de Seguro de Medicare, tarjeta de discapacidad de GCT o tarjeta de ADA

• Recipiente de Seguro de Medicare: Tarjeta de Medicare

Todas las tarjetas de identificación usadas deben ser válidas. Cualquier documento oficial que demuestra la fecha de nacimiento de los pasajeros se considera comprobante de edad. Las paradas se identifican con un letrero de Gold Coast Transit. Se indicaran las rutas que sirven esa parada. Para la seguridad de nuestros pasajeros, los autobúses de GCT recojen sólo en las paradas designadas.

Llegue por lo menos 5 - 10 minutos temprano a su parada. Esté parado junto a la señal, banca o resguardo del autobús para que el chófer pueda verlo. El chófer no va a saber si lo tiene que recojer si no es claramente visible.

El número de ruta de autobús y el destino se muestran en un letrero electrónico arriba del parabrisas. Antes de abordar el autobús, asegúrese de que sea el autobús que desea tomar. Si esta inseguro, pidale ayuda al chófer del autobús.

Tenga su pasaje, pase o transferenciá lista al abordar. A todos los pasajeros se les requiere presentar prueba aceptable de elegibilidad para pagar tarifa de descuento, por favor tenga su identificación lista. Si esta pagando en efectivo, tenga el precio exacto, los operadores no dan cambio.

Si su viaje requiere el uso de más de un autobús para llegar a su destino, pidale una transferencia gratis al chófer cuando pague su tarifa. Lea la sección sobre “Como Transferir” para más información.

Al abordar el autobús y pagar su tarifa, sientese en un asiento. Observe que las personas mayores y personas con discapacidad tengan la prioridad por los asientos directamente detrás del chófer. Si no hay ningún asiento disponible, proceda al fondo del autobús y por favor agarrese de las barandillas.

Una cuadra antes de su parada, jale el cordón para bajar o empuje la tira para señalar al chófer que quiere bajar en la próxima parada. Esté seguro que el chófer tenga bastante tiempo para poder parar con seguridad.

Por favor trate de salir por la puerta de atras, esto

hara que el servicio sea mas rapido. Empuje la barra suavemente y las puertas se abrirán. Sostenga la puerta cuando salga del autobús. Algunos autobúses tienen una tira amarilla localizada en la puerta trasera. En estos autobúses, toque la cinta amarilla y las puertas abrirán. Después de que salga, manténgase de pie al lado del camino hasta que el autobús proceda adelante. Para su seguridad, no cruce delante del autobús.

CÓMO VIAJAR EN EL AUTOBÚS

CÓMO TRANSFERIRSi necesita usar más de un autobús para llegar a su destino, pídale al conductor una transferencia cuando pague su tarifa en el primer autobús.

Transferencias son gratis y se pueden utilizar como su tarifa en cualquier autobús de GCT, en cualquier dirección. Será válida hasta la última hora indicada en la hoja de transferencia.

A los pasajeros con pases diarios o mensuales, no se les emitirán las transferencias.

Si usted está preocupado sobre su conexión, pídale al conductor que llame al otro autobús para informarles de su traslado. Tome en cuenta que no siempre sera posible hablarle al otro autobús.

INSTRUCCIONES PARA CARGAR BICICLETAS

Usted es responsable de cargar y de descargar su bicicleta correctamente. Retire bolsas, portadores de niño, botellas de agua o cualquier objeto que pudiera caerse. Cargue siempre su bicicleta del lado de la banqueta del autobús.

• Alerte al operador que usted propone cargar su bicicleta, después baje el estante estirando la manilla. 1

• Levante su bicicleta hacia el estante. 2

• Levante la manilla del estante sobre la llanta delantera para mantener su bicicleta en su lugar. 13

• Al bajar el autobús, asegúrese de informarle al conductor que usted va a bajar su bicicleta del estante. Por favor baje del autobús por la puerta principal.

• Cuando este descargada su bicicleta, levante el estante a la posición vertical.

Tenga en cuenta que:

ACCESS PARATRÁNSITO

¿QUE ES ACCESS?

ACCESS es un servicio de transporte público de origen a destino para personas con discapacidad y adultos mayores de 65 años de edad que no pueden utilizar el servicio de autobús de ruta fija. ACCESS sirve las ciudades de Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura y áreas no incorporadas del Condado de Ventura.

ELEGIBILIDAD PARA ACCESS

Elegibilidad de ADA: • Personas con discapacidades cuales no les permite poder viajar en el autobús de las rutas fijas.

1. Visual impairment such that, after best correction, vision in the better eye is 20/200, or less; or the visual field is contracted to 10 degrees or less from a point of fixation or subtends to an angle no greater than 20 degrees.

2. Hearing impairment such that there is a 50% bilateral hearing loss uncorrected by use of a hearing aid.

3. Musculoskeletal impairment such as muscular dystrophy, osteogenesis imperfecta, or severe rheumatism or arthritis of Therapeutic Grade III or worse, Functional Class III or worse, or Anatomical Grade III or worse.

4. Cardiovascular impairment resulting in marked limitation of physical activity. Less than ordinary physical activity causes fatigue, palpitation, dyspnea or anginal pain. Ordinary physical activity should be markedly restricted.

5. Respiratory impairment in which shortness of breath does not appear during times of rest but does occur during ordinary daily activities such as stair climbing or walking more than 200 feet. At the time of upper respiratory illness, it may become severe enough to require hospitalization.

6. Amputation, anatomical deformity (due to vascular or neurological deficits), traumatic loss of muscle mass or tendons, or x-ray evidence of bony or fibrous ankylosis joint subluxation, or instability of: (a) both hands, (b) one hand and one foot, or (c) amputation of one lower extremity at or above the tarsal region.

7. Paralysis, incoordination, or functional motor deficit in any two limbs due to brain, spinal, or peripheral nerve injury, including paraplegia, quadriplegia, and hemiplegia.

8. A developmental disability that is manifested before the person reaches 22 years of age, which constitutes a sub-stantial disability to the affected individual, and is attributable to mental retardation or related conditions which include cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism or other neurological conditions.

9. Emotional disorder due to the presence of mental illness, to the extent that applicant has significant impairment and/or symptoms which hinder their daily living, including schizophrenia, clinical depression, bi-polar and anxiety disorders.

1. Impedimento visual que la visión del mejor ojo es 20/200 o menos después de la mejor corrección; o el campo de visión es limitado a 10 grado o menos de un punto fijo o subtiende un ángulo que no es más de 20 grado.

2. Impedimento auditidivo pérdida bilateral de un 50% del oído que no ha sido corregida por un aparato audífono.

3. Impedimento muscular o esqueletal como distrofía muscular, osteogenesis imperfecta, reumatismo severo o artritis de Grado Terapéutico III o peor, Clase Funcióna III o peor, o Grado Anatómico III o peor.

4. Impedimento cardiovascular que resulta en limitación de actividades físicas. Actividad física que es menos que la ordinaria, causa fatiga, palpitaciones, disnea o dolor anginal. Actividad física ordinaria debería ser restringida notablemente.

5. Impedimento respiratorio severo en que se respira con dificultad, no en los momentos de descanso, pero cuando hace actividades diarias y ordinarias, como subir escaleras o cuando camina más de 200 pies. Cuando hay una enfermedad respiratoria que se puede poner tan severa que requiera hospitalización.

6. Amputación, deformidad anatómica (debida a déficit vascular o neurológico), pérdida traumática de masa o ten-dones, o evidencia por rayos X de anquilosis de fibras o huesos y desconyuntamiento, o instabilidad de (a) ambas manos, (b) una mano y un pie, o (c) amputación de una extremidad baja en, o sobre la región tarsal.

7. Parálisis, falta de coordinación o déficit funcional en el movimiento de dos miembros, debido a daño del cerebro, la espina dorsal o nervios periféricos, incluyendo paraplegia, quadriplegia y hemiplegia.

8. Una incapacidad de desarrollo es una incapacidad que se manifiesta antes de que la persona alcance 22 anos de edad, que constituye una incapacidad substancial al individuo afectado, y es atribuible al retraso mental o a las condiciones relacionadas que incluyen parálisis cerebral, epilepsia, autismo, u otros condiciones neurológicos.
