• Objectives:– to promote yachting and Lithuania as a marine state– to promote "business pilgrimage" concept– to educate patriotism and love for one's own land

HISTORICAL RECONSTRUCTION

"I propose to take 1583-1584 route of M.K.Radvila Našlaitėlis’ (the Orphan) (he was best known for ordering the first accurate map of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL) in 1613) journey to the Holy Land.

This historical figure is important in a deeper perspective, too. In 1586, right upon returning from this journey, he funded early baroque Jesuit Church of Nesvyžius built imitating Il Gesù of Rome consecrated in 1583.

This fact testifies that the cultural phenomena of Western Europe reached Lithuania and the GDL without delay. Thus, the fact may be deeply conceptualised envisaging in it Lithuania’s becoming a genuinely integral part of Europe as early as in the 16th c."

Prof. Dr. A. Bumblauskas

CHALLENGE: TO REPEAT THE LEGENDARY JOURNEY

• Idea: BUSINESS PILGRIMAGE: to continue the tradition of sea trade scouts, young business leaders travel to the Mediterranean Sea ports in quest of new trade relations and for their further development.

• OBJECTIVE: to sign Memoranda of Understanding, concerning the development of commercial relations, with the officers of city councils, commercial attachés and Chambers of Commerce of the destination cities.

• THIS PROMOTES diplomatic, cultural and trade relations as well as Lithuanian exports, tourism and country image.

THE MESSAGE WE BRING TO FOREIGN PORTS

• In 2009, LITHUANIA celebrated its millennium. In 2010, it commemorates the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald and the 20th anniversary of its Independence Restoration.

• LITHUANIA develops innovation-based economy and by way of BUSINESS PILGRIMAGE attracts investment, and restores or enhances economic partnerships with the Mediterranean states.

• LITHUANIAN CAPITAL VILNIUS is a modern city open for tourism, culture and business.

FIRST "VELVET" STAGE (~300 NMI)

Sailing by velvety Mediterranean along sultanic Turkey. Taurus Mountains of incredible beauty, calm bays and jolly parties in hospitable ports. Excellent service, delicious food and fantastic chill-out. Less yachting, more interaction. Benefit: no seasickness whatsoever. Is anyone willing to sunbathe on the deck? Recommended for girls and young couples.

1. STAGE DATES:3-10 July 2010

Page 14: Gold of Lithuania 2010 project presentation

SECOND "SILK" STAGE (~260 NMI)

Sailing from the Muslim Turkey to Byzantine Island of Cyprus. Third island in the Mediterranean in terms of size but none the less impressive and charming. Silk yachting downwind towards the island and millennia of history... Average level of yachting, more than enough interaction. Benefit: crazy parties that can only be arranged by island inhabitants. Those interested in the grandeur and beauty of the Ottoman Empire will be fascinated.

STAGE II DATES:10-17 July 2010

Page 15: Gold of Lithuania 2010 project presentation

THIRD "LEATHER" STAGE (~194 NMI)

Sailing from Cyprus further from Syrian coast to Haifa and Tel-Aviv. Cautious stage, shorter than the rest, therefore, it is a genuine pilgrimage. To see Israel white as a lamb's skin, to get to know the most ancient roots of Christian culture is a challenge worth of you. To sail from the island to the continent is interesting for both the beginners and the advanced seafarers. Furthermore, a tour to the Holy Jerusalem is also intended (bus tour). Recommended for open-minded people and adventure-seekers.

STAGE III DATES:17-24 July 2010

Page 16: Gold of Lithuania 2010 project presentation

FOURTH "LINEN" STAGE (~638 NMI)

Sailing from Israel along Gaza Sector and African coast to Egypt. And then what? Straight to the Rhodes. Those longing for challenges. Those unafraid of dangers and harsh but durable linen clothing. For sailing day and night. For those dreaming of sailing into Alexandria by sea. Lots of yachting and endless chats of the crew: after all there cannot be anything better than fascinating stories in a night yacht under the starry skies.

STAGE IV DATES:24-31 July 2010
