Juan and Doris Perez, Mutual 15, welcomed home their grand-daughter, Violet Ranson, from Tokyo, Japan.

Ranson, a student at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, was the recipient of the Goldsmith Research Award and spent two months in Tokyo. During her stay, she studied the after effects of the Hiroshima Atomic bomb and the aftermath of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that de-stroyed the City of Fukushima. At the conclusion of her analysis of the two disasters, she prepared and documented detailed reports that will be presented at Bowdoin College in the fall semester.

It was not all study. Ranson and her fellow students visited two other cities. They enjoyed the food, beautiful countryside and hospitality of the Japanese

people. Ranson will return to Bow-

doin College and complete her senior year. She is majoring in environmental engineering and minoring in the Japanese.

Violet Ranson

Granddaughter returns from JapanThe cost of the three-day,

two-night trip is $125, double occupancy; $158, singles.

The Four Queens is located downtown at the Fremont Street Experience. Stroll the covered pedestrian mall and watch the glittering Viva Vision light show that is played every hour on the hour from dusk to midnight with stunning visual and sound effects.

The Viva Vision canopy tow-ers 90 feet above the ground and spans the length of five football fields. It features more than 12 million LED modules and a 555,000-watt sound system. New Viva Vision shows are cre-ated each year and are rotated in and out.
