WELCOME HOME PREP:
If you or anyone you know, are interested in
supporting your company and/ or Soldier through contributions or by volunteering to help decorate the barracks and the unit area,
please contact your FRG Leader.
As we begin to prepare for homecoming, please don’t forget about supporting the single Soldiers as well. We would love to provide all the comforts of home for our
single Soldiers and are working hard at gathering items to make their
welcome home a great one. Homemade cards or signs are always a great
way to say “Welcome Home” as well.
For more information or to find out how you can help make this Welcome Home a special
one for our Soldiers, please contact your FRG Leader.
The producers of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” are seeking people involved in the military whose home deserves an extreme makeover. The producers are looking for people with “amazing strength of character and who put their own needs aside to help others,” a press re-lease said. “Whether it’s a soldier, a mom, a teacher or a fireman, we think deserving families are fami-lies who inspire those around them.” Additionally, the show’s producers are seeking families whose houses need major altera-
tions or repair – “homes that pre-sent serious problems for the family and affect the family’s quality of life.” To be eligible, families must own their single family home and be able to demonstrate how a make-over will make a difference in their lives. Interested military families or people who wish to nominate a military family should email a short description of the family’s story to [email protected]. The email should include the names and ages of household members, a descrip-tion of the family’s challenges, an explanation of why the family is
deserving of a makeover or is a positive role model in the community, photos of the family and their home, and contact numbers. The dead-line for nominations is May 30, but people should send submissions early, the re-lease said. Only up to 25 families are selected each season. For more informa-tion on the application proc-ess, visit http://abc.go.com/primetime/xtremehome/index?pn=apply.

The traveling Sesame Street/USO Experience will be touring in Hawaii next month! This ALL NEW, free show, exclusively for military children and their families, features Elmo and his friends. Check out http://www.sesameworkshop.org/initiatives/emotion/tlc for all the wonderful resources Sesame Street has developed for military families. The free show, performed exclusively for military families, is in its fifth installment as it incorporates Sesame Workshop’s award-winning Talk, Listen, Connect (TLC) initiative while unveiling a new Sesame Street character, designed exclusively for the USO tour. The new character, Katie, is a military child relocating to a new home. With the help of Elmo and other Sesame pals, Katie opens up about her fears and excitement as she deals with change and making new friends. “There is nothing that gives the USO more joy than making the lives of mili-tary families a little easier and lighten-ing their load,” said USO President Sloan Gibson. “Relocating to a new place can be difficult for everyone, but especially for military families with young children. That is why this tour is SO important and why we proudly stand beside Sesame Workshop to deliver a show that is entertaining and helpful to the children of those who serve.”
