What is a bike library, you ask? It’s a bike share program, where visitors, residents, local employees and students can “check out” a bike for a limited time period for local use in Golden. What makes a bike library different than say a traditional bike share program like “B-cycle” in Denver is that the “library” has a variety of bikes available for different ages and abilities including, road bikes, mountain bikes, children’s bikes and light-weight geared bikes to address Golden’s hills. Users will be able to check out bikes for lo-cal trips, employment meetings, and recreation or to link to local public transportation.

The Golden Bike Library is centrally located at the Golden Visi-tors Center at 1010 Washington Avenue. Users can check out bikes Thursday through Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm. A key-drop box at the Visitors Center allows users to return the bikes after hours. Rid-ers are required to sign a waiver and those under 18 must have a parent signature. A valid ID and credit card are also required for rentals. Rides under two hours are free, while daily rentals are a nominal fee. Check the website www.goldenbikelibrary.com for up-to-date pricing.

Each bike comes equipped with a lock and helmet. Riders will also receive a Golden Ticket and reusable water bottle with each

bike rental. Passes for the Golden Circulator Bus are also available if you plan to access public transportation.

Reservations are not required, but please note there are a lim-ited number of bikes in any preferred style and size. The library has a total of 40 bikes. Golden information, maps and self-guided tours are available to plan biking adventures if new to Golden.

The program will expand in 2017 to offer two additional “branch” locations, additional bikes (up to 60) and be open 7 days a week. For more information about the Golden bike library visit golden-bikelibrary.com or for general Golden biking information go on-line to visitgolden.com.

Meyer Hardware1103 Arapahoe Street, Golden303-279-3393 | www.meyerhardware.com

In 1945, Joe and Ruby Meyer moved from Ne-braska and settled in Golden where they bought a hardware store from E.G. Son. It was then that the Meyer Hardware legacy began. Their daugh-ter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Harold Schae-fer, eventually joined them and helped to create one of the best hardware stores in Metro Den-ver. Today, the Schaefer’s sons, Steve and Jim are carrying on the family tradition. Jim works as a salesperson, and Steve is President of the Cor-poration.

After expanding over eight times since 1945, the business now operates out of a 21,000 square foot building. Customer service has al-ways been Meyer Hardware’s most important competitive advantage. It employs knowledge-able and friendly people and maintains a staff of 20 with a total of 355 years of service. As Steve states, “We pride ourselves on being a service-oriented store. If you can’t find something here, we will try to order it for you.”

Definitely drop in and see what Meyer Hard-ware has to offer.

Our original Bar-B-Que is inspired by great traditions from across the country with a Colo-rado twist.

Our rub is one of a kind, blending flavors of the southwest with the toasted notes of herbs and spices.

Our sauce is a Kansas City style with a tangy vinegar influence from the Carolinas to enhance the sweet molasses undertones. We smoke with a combination of mesquite and applewood, which gives our meat a mild flavor with a hint of sweetness that enhances the flavor of our meats and ribs.
