Message from the Congress Chairpersons Message from the President, FIGO Message From the Chairman, Advisory Committee
This prestigious Conference, the SLCOG Golden Jubilee Congress 2017 - in association with the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), the Asia and Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AOFOG) and the South Asian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (SAFOG) - is held in collaboration with the Golden Jubilee of the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (SLCOG) and is organised by the SLCOG.
We are delighted that the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG; the UK), The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) and The European Board & College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG) will also participate.
As President of FIGO, I am honoured to be in attendance to represent FIGO and its 130 Member Societies around the world. SLCOG - as a long-term Member Society of FIGO - is an immensely valuable organisation in the eld of global women’s health. It is also represented as one of 24 Member Societies on the FIGO Executive Board. FIGO is delighted to work so closely with the leadership of SLCOG - both organisations are immeasurably strengthened by this mutual partnership as we work together to maintain a close professional focus on the South Asian Region.
The theme of the Congress - 'Improving Women's Health; Past Experience - Tomorrow's Agenda’ resonates deeply with FIGO. There are many women’s health issues demanding our attention - as well as taking forward maternal mortality initiatives, our active engagement is required in the ongoing prevention and early detection of cervical cancer, breast disease, maternal nutrition, diabetes and family planning, to name just a few areas. For example, one of FIGO’s major initiatives, its project for ‘Institutionalising Post-Partum IUD Services’, was rst piloted in Sri Lanka (now being reproduced in other countries), and aims to address the post-partum contraceptive needs of women by institutionalising the practice of oering immediate post-partum Intra-Uterine Device services (IUD) in hospital. This is but one example of FIGO, governments and Member Societies working together for the benet of women’s health. Long may these collaborative eorts continue.
FIGO has a vision that women of the world achieve the highest possible standards of physical, mental, reproductive and sexual health and wellbeing throughout their lives. I congratulate the organisers of this superb event for the forward planning and attention to detail that will enable us to move towards that vision with condence and energy.
Please avail yourselves of everything this remarkable gathering has to oer, not least the excellent Pre-Congress Workshops and the varied and plentiful scientic sessions. Robust debate is assured, and there will be rich opportunities to rearm old associations and create new professional relationships.
I look forward to seeing you there.
My very best wishesProfessor C N PurandareFIGO President

Golden Jubilee of the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists
Dear Professor Deepal Weeraskera, President SLCOG, ocers, executive board members, colleagues and friends,
It gives me great pleasure to give a message on the occasion of the Golden jubilee celebration of the Sri Lankan College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SLCOG). The theme of the conference "Improving Women's Health; Past Experience - Tomorrow's Agenda" is a very tting after reviewing what has been achieved by Sri Lanka to improve women’s health over the last 50 years – one of lowest maternal mortality in the region. The SLCOG should be proud of its achievements but it wants to keep on advancing women’s health in line with “Agenda 2030: Transforming our World”, the consensus of the World Community that introduced 17 SDGs. In addition to medical advances requested by SDG3, SLCOG also want to tackle SDG 5 embodied earlier in 1995 in the Beijing World Conference on Women with the slogan “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Set it up for Gender Equality”. These human aspirations of ‘The Agenda 2030; Transforming our world’ and ‘Planet 50-50 by 2030’ will not happen without the contribution of Professional organisations. Hence the SLCOG has enlisted the intellectual talent of the International (FIGO) and regional federations (AOFOG, SAFOG, EBCOG) and the Royal Colleges of the UK & Australia and New Zealand, the American College and the Malaysian Society. This would help the global O&G community to share their experience. This meeting would be a scientic feast. No doubt this would be matched by the splendid Sri Lankan hospitality. I am condent that women globally will continue to benet from the successful activities that arise from this meeting. We will leave the meeting with a resolution that the Global goal of Agenda 2030 with the SDGs and the mission ‘Planet 50-50’ that was promised in Beijing 22 years ago would be a reality if we all work together.
Yours sincerely,Sir Sabaratnam ArulkumaranPast President FIGO (‘12-‘15), RCOG (’07-’10), BMA (’13-’14)
