One of the curiosities of this territory, the north-eastern corner of the Iberian Peninsula, is its equidistance be-tween the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. The Club de Golf Peralada, with 18 holes and a total length of 6,071 m, is an ideal course for holding com-petitions of all levels or simply enjoying a pleasant, relaxing day. It is considered suitable for all players be-cause its design adapts to various levels of play. The 18 holes are distributed into five par 3’s, four par 5’s and nine par 4’s. They are divided into two itineraries of nine holes that start and finish at the clubhouse, the first be-ing par 36 and the second par 35, making a total of par 71 for the whole course.

The design of the course shows great respect for the environment. It is the first course to obtain the Eu-ropean Union’s EMAS Certification. Defined as a par-3 of short distances, the 18-hole Par 3 P&P Gualta course is a golfers’ delight, with bunkers, lakes and large greens. Speaking of culture in the Costa Brava and the Pirineu de Girona means going back to the dawn of civilisation. Starting our journey in the very earliest of times, we find megalithic monuments in the Albera and the Gavarres hills, prehistoric caves in Serinyà, the ancient Iberian settle-ment of Ullastret, and Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Modernist buildings in all of the itineraries. Our coast was visited and inhabited, especially for commercial pur-poses, by the Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans, who not only left their imprint here but built towns like Empú-ries, where today we can follow the footsteps of those ancient visitors. From the Middle Ages we have excep-tional works of architecture like the monasteries of Sant

Pere de Rodes and Ripoll, whose stones speak to us of a thousand years of life and culture.

In recent years, through the eyes of artists, espe-cially the masterly Salvador Dalí, we have discovered a new vision of our surroundings, both cultural and scenic, portrayed in priceless creations. Today, the Dalí Triangle, consisting of the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, the Gala Dalí Castle-Museum in Púbol and the Dalí House-Museum in Portlligat, allows us to take this almost metaphysical journey through a world of tormented nature and idyllic, unique settings.

Apart from the Dalí spaces, there are over 55 mu-seums and 550 historic buildings to admire.

From the Middle Ages we have exceptional works of architecture like the monasteries of Sant Pere de Rodes and Ripoll, whose stones speak to us of a thousand years of life and culture.

Cuisine

Defining what is or isn’t culture is a virtually impossible task. The relationship between culture and cuisine is almost innate, to the point that Salvador Dalí once said, “Art will either be edible or it will not exist”. The cultural side that cuisine represents in our society is experiencing a veritable renaissance, with such notable innovators as Ferran Adrià, among others. Even so, our gastronomy is multiple and varied, and is based on an honest, home-

style cooking that is very closely linked to traditional roots. If we spoke in the previous section about culture that can be seen, our cui-sine might be viewed as a culture that can be experienced and enjoyed. Its high professional standards mean that behind every restaurant door you will find an excellent culinary experience, with first-class establishments on the international scale.
