Free write: golf (5 minutes) Golf is the most frustrating activity ever. The Eistein quote, “Insanity is repeating the same thing a thousand times and expecting a different result,” is very apt for golf. Form can be perfect, mentality can be focused, even the weather conditions can be on your side, and somehow, the ball still doesn’t go where you want it. There are so many minute things to look out for, what lie the ball is on (whether the patch of grass the ball is sitting in is Kikuyu grass, the most annoying kind, or other more amicable types of grass), reading the greens (looking at how the topography of the grass near the hole affects putting), or looking at where hazards such as water, sand bunkers, or the woods can affect your next shot. I practiced golf today, and my main focus was on club speed (how fast you are swinging when you make contact with the ball) and complete rotation (more rotation causes more torque which increases the power of your swing). My transition from a “baby” golfer to an “adult” golfer is my fondest memory. I initially only had a half swing to focus on timing and hitting the ball square on the club. When I then started doing complete swings, I remember I lost all control of the ball and hit two hundred of them all over the place. Eventually, I was able to keep my balance while swinging so hard, and finally, I started hitting the ball like a real golfer!
