value chain – Danish strategy (my view): “upstream is prime country,

maybe we can develop some apps?”.

Innovation: • GomSpace pioneered space based aircraft tracking in 2013 • Thanks to IFDK and partners AAU and INSERO • Further development internally and with ESA

Business set-up: • Aerial & Maritime (A&M) registered in Mauritius • To serve 112 countries around Equator • Aircraft and ship tracking for situational awareness • En-route billing service for aircraft • To be launched H1 2018 to 500km near equatorial orbit

| EXAMPLE 2: BEAMWATCH |

• Basic idea: – There are 429 active satellites in geostationary orbit – Each has a number of antennas/beams directed at Earth – A nanosatellite in polar low Earth orbit will pass through

all beams in 24 hours

• Opportunity: – The nanosatellite can perform global beam

performance measurements – Can support health monitoring, commissioning, insurance

market, interference litigation and intelligence

• Innovative formula: – Bringing downstream and upstream together in a novel

integrated application based on positions of strength: – TICRA; world leading software for antenna/beam design

for traditional satellites in geostationary orbit – GomSpace; leader in nanosatellite technology and

pioneer in introducing new downstream applications


| EXAMPLE 3 : SKY AND SPACE GLOBAL |

• In February GomSpace was contracted to deliver the full equatorial constellation. Order is valued at 330-520MSEK

• Sky and Space Global Ltd. a UK based company with mother company listed in Australia

• They pursue a business plan to operate before 2020 an equatorial constellation of hundreds of satellites.

• Will provide data connectivity (low bandwidth) and voice services as subscriptions through local resellers focusing on developing countries

• GomSpace delivered the first three test satellites that will be launched later in 2017. Contracted in 2016.

• Many other companies pursuing business plans with similar level of ambition, but at different stages of maturity.
