1) Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the

screening.

Gone With The Wind was originally a novel written by Margaret Mitchell, it

took ten years to write and was released in 1936. Mitchell sold the rights to her

book for $50,000.00; not realizing the popularity it would gain or commenting on

the film before she had passed. This movie has much to offer, with complex story

lines and life lessons this piece was bound to be a classic. One of the first movies

to use techno color gone with the wind was beautifully filmed taking full

advantage of the Hollywood advances.

2) Find a related article and summarize the content.

In an article written by Clyde Kelly Dunagan he states that "it turned out to

be a monumental film in almost every aspect." For its time Gone With the Wind

was very impressive in the spectacle department with the fires and thousands of

extras this film didn't slack, everything that was done was done with grandeur.

The budget was profound for 1939 having spent $4,250,000.00 on this project;

equivalent to 50 million of today's dollars. The mark this film left of the film

industry is priceless leaving images of the tale imbedded in viewers heads for

decades. This classic was the winner of eight of the nine Oscars it was nominated

for, almost succeeding in every category.

3) Apply the article to the film screened in class. How did the

article support or change the way you thought about the film,

director, content, etc.?

I thought this film lived up to its expectation. Although it was very long

Gone with the wind tells stories that wouldn't be able to be summed up in the

preciseness executed in this screen play. The tales of slavery, war , love , and lust

all come to surface in this piece, leaving America exposed for what was going on

in this country and how people coped. The layer of beauty and meaningful

themes this movie succeeds in educating and entertaining.

4) Write a critical analysis of the film, including your personal

opinion, formed as a result of 4 things.

It took me years to attempt Gone With the Wind and finally when I was

ready it took days to find the time. The intimidation factor and longevity of the

film has kept me away but now that I finally took the time I understand what all

the rage was about. this is an American must see classic. the beauty and moments

in this film will stick with me forever and, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."
