Gone By Justin Powell
Today is the last day of school. This year was a total blast. There were three of us: Daniel, Brock and I. They were the best friends that I’ve ever had. They were both like brothers to me. Now the fun was all over, I knew that we would not meet each other for a long time, because Daniel and Brock were both moving to different places. Daniel was going to go to China and Brock was going to Los Angles. “Are you just goin’ to sit there?” Daniel said, “Let’s run around together for the last time.” We all stood up and walked calmly, and then we ran like crazy all around the field. Straight, back, right and left. We didn’t stop until we saw a car coming. “Guys hide!” Brock said, “They’ll capture us before we know it!” Although I did not know what Brock was talking about, I hid. Daniel just stood there like he was made of stone. I waved to him, but he did not look at me. He just stared at the car. I wondered what was so cool about the car. I went to Daniel to tell him to hide, but the moment I reached Daniel, I knew why Brock said hide and I also knew why Daniel was standing still. The car was Daniel’s car. Daniel slowly turned around and said, “Bye guys. Hope we meet again.” Then he slowly walked away. I didn’t know what to say. I just stood there waiting for him to come back like it was all a joke. He didn’t. He was gone forever. We were now going to be parted by the sea, but he is still my friend. Brock broke the silence. “One gone, two left.” I finally recovered and said, “C’mon, let’s go to our fort.” I stood up and walked to the fort we had built together. It reminded me of all the fun times. When we first met, the time when we built the fort and the time we had a triple birthday party. I knew that I would never forget this moment of my life. When I realized that Brock was standing next to me, it was too late. A car was coming… Brock’s car. We did not speak as we walked to his car. “Bye.”
said Brock as he picked up his backpack. I opened my mouth, but nothing would come out. Brock slowly walked on to the car. The engine of the car started. Brock put his head out from the window and waved. I stood there. My hand did not listen to my brain saying, “Wave! Wave!” When the car was out of sight I finally said, “Bye guys.”
