Remember, your username and password is in your monkey book!
Spellings
Here are your daily spellings.Practise them and later ask an adult to test you.
You could try to write them in a sentence!

English
We are going to be reading a new ‘Year Two’ story for our English work.
Challenge:
Write a detailed prediction of what you
think this story is going to be about
(based on the front cover).
Once upon a time, there was a little boy called Jimmy, who lived with his mother in a tiny cottage.
Early one morning, Jimmy opened his old cupboard and he found an enormous aeroplane. It looked intriguing, beautiful and fast. He didn’t remember leaving it in there but he thought it looked spectacular so he took it for a go right away. The plane lifted off the ground climbing higher and higher and higher.
Suddenly, the plane spluttered. What did those wild flashing lights mean? Oh no! The plane had run out of petrol. Unfortunately, the boy was stuck on the moon. What was he going to do? He was alone and very afraid.
Up in space, a Martian’s engine had also broken down. He was hurtling towards a flickering, shimmering light when suddenly… He crash-landed on the moon with an almighty BANG!
Jimmy was terrified when he heard the spaceship’s rumble but soon he felt relieved because he wasn’t alone any more. Bravely, he walked and he walked until he reached the strange space ship. Smoke was bellowing out of the side and he could hear someone calling for help.
As their eyes got used to the dark, Jimmy and the Martian saw that they had met someone else in trouble. Together, they tried to think of a plan to get off the moon. Working as a team, Jimmy fixed the Martian’s engine while the Martian helped to refill Jimmy’s petrol tank.
They said goodbye, thanked each other for their help and wondered if they’d ever meet again. After a long night, they were finally off the moon and both on their way back home
Can I answer questions and make inferences about a book?
1. What did Jimmy find in the cupboard?2. How did Jimmy feel about the plane?3. Where was Jimmy stuck? Why?4. How did Jimmy feel when he heard the spaceship’s rumble?5. Do you think Jimmy and the Martian will ever meet again? Why?
Maths Starter
Can you find half these numbers?
8 10 12 4 20 14 6
2 22
Maths
We are going to be finding fractions of numbers. The division work you did last week is really going to help you for today’s Maths!
You can use your multiplication and division facts and your knowledge of halving numbers.
Or, we can divide (share) the amount into groups, like we did for division. We have looked at all of this before, but there is recap for you on the next
few slides.
½We can half numbers in our head but we can also
divide the amount by 2.
½ of 8 = 4
¼ We can half the amount and then half it again in
our heads or we can divide by 4.
¼ of 12 = 3
2/4 is the same as ½! 2/4 of 12 = 6
¾ ¾ of 8 = 6
1/3 1/3 of 6 = 2
Have a go at the following questions.
Start with the green questions and if you want to challenge yourself, move on to the orange and red questions.
½ of 10 =½ of 8 =½ of 12 =¼ of 12 =¼ of 16 =¾ of 8 =1/3 of 9 =
½ of 12 =¼ of 8 =2/4 of 12 =¾ of 20 =1/3 of 12 =¾ of 16 =¼ of 20 =
½ of 22 =¼ of 24 =1/3 of 15 =2/4 of 12 =¾ of 16 =1/4 of 4 =¾ of 40 =
Reasoning Problem Solving
ChallengesThis is extra reasoning and problem solving work that you DO NOT have to do but are here if you enjoy a challenge!
Active Fun!
Go on a sensory walk outside. Stop occasionally to think about what you can
see, hear, smell and touch.

On the morning of July 16th
1969, the United States of
America got ready to launch
its Saturn V rocket from
launch pad 39A at Cape
Kennedy, Florida, USA.
Three astronauts were on board Saturn V: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins
and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin. The astronauts had to go through lots of training to
move around in their bulky spacesuits, and test all the spacecraft’s equipment.

On launch day, Collins, Armstrong and Aldrin sat at the very
top of Saturn V in the command module. At 9:32am Saturn V’s
engines fired and the rocket launched off from its tower.
Twelve minutes later, the astronauts were orbiting Earth.

The Apollo 11 crew took 4 days to reach the Moon.
Once they were orbiting the Moon, Armstrong and Aldrin climbed into the
Eagle Lunar Module and landed on the Moon.
Collins stayed in the Columbia Command Module.

and Aldrin down to the land on the Moon.
On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first human to step on
the moon. He and Aldrin walked around for three hours. They did
experiments. They picked up bits of moon dirt and rocks. They put a
U.S. flag on the moon. They also left a sign on the moon.
The Apollo 11 Moon landing was the most watched event in the history of television,
nearly 600 million people watched. Across the USA people held Moon parties,
recorded their thoughts in letters and took family photos. Nobody was going to forget
the day that man first walked on the Moon.
Questions about the Apollo 11 Moon Landing
What else would you be interested in finding out about the moon landing or about Neil Armstrong, Michael
Collins and “Buzz” Aldrin?
Let’s think of some questions.
Write them in your book.
