DEADLINE FOR THE NEXT GOOD NEWS OF GRACE: The next “Good News of Grace” will be sent out the
week of July 17. Please have articles in to the Church Office by 12:00 noon on Monday, July 17.
We celebrate Christ,
teach Christ,
witness to Christ,
and care for others
as though they are Christ.
THE PASTOR’S THE PASTOR’S
ASSISTANCE FUNDASSISTANCE FUND
Imagine that your income is
not keeping up with your expenses.
Imagine that’s because of
medical costs.
Or it’s because your wages are low or you or
your spouse never qualified for jobs that had retirement benefits, and you’re living on social security.
You may have relatives to help you. But you feel like a drain on them. And they have their
own troubles.
You may be tempted to use credit cards. But
those expenses and the interest added to them have begun to add to your monthly bills.
Imagine that your income is not keeping up with your expenses.
A recent study indicates that half of
Americans live this way. With this fear and
stress.
And then an unexpected expense comes
along: your car or your water heater or your furnace breaks down.
And you can’t pay your housing costs or your utilities or for your medications. By saving people money on food purchases, food
pantries can help people scrape money together to pay some of those costs. But
sometimes people just can’t make it work anymore.
People show up at the door of Grace
Lutheran Church all the time with stories like this. And worse. If we feel safe doing
so, we offer them food. Otherwise, we turn them away.
We can, however, help members of Grace with a limited amount of financial assistance … no more than $500 a year … through the
Pastor’s Assistance Fund. Over the years, a few members of Grace have provided enough gifts above and beyond their regular giving to
meet the requests. But some of them have died over the past few years.

So the fund is getting low.
If you feel God calling you to help provide this kind of emergency help for your fellow members of Grace, please contribute to this fund in whatever way you can. Yes, it’s a way
of obeying Luther’s understanding of the Fifth Commandment:
“We are to fear and love God so that we do not hurt our neighbors in any way,
but help them in all their physical needs.”
But this kind of help is also a gift of greatly needed peace for our brothers and sisters at Grace.

Grace Music Scholarship …learning to
share
Who is the scholarship for?
The Grace Music Scholarship used to be just for organists. Now it’s for any member of Grace Lutheran Church of any age who wants to learn to play music and to share
it in the life of our congregation. So now we offer a maximum of four $320 scholarships
each year.
● organ / keyboard ● vocal ● instrumental (non-keyboard)
● beginner (limited to one scholarship per year)
Because there may not be applicants for each of these categories, the Scholarship
Committee may choose to award two or more scholarships in the same category. For an application and all the details …
Pick up a scholarship information sheet and
application in the lobby, church office, buzz room, or parlor desk. Deadline for scholarship applications is August 27.

EPH NEWSEPH NEWS
This month’s health article will EPH June Update
On a Wednesday morning we learned of a mother and four children (one of which was 8 days old) living in her car. Due to the
nature of the family’s situation, our Salvation Army case management team
asked if there was any way the family could be placed on Friday. The only home without a family had not
been cleaned because the aging cupboards were in the midst of being refinished. At
least that’s what we thought. After placing a few calls, we learned that the home had been cleaned and that the start of refinishing of
the cupboards was delayed a few days. A few more calls and volunteers moved in
another twin bed, a crib, and made the beds. The family moved from their car and into a home with 48 hours.
Just lucky? Stars perfectly aligned? Or God at work?
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21
EPH Position Available
EPH has a part-time position available for a team member to support our grant application process, direct mail campaign,

This amount is the benevolent half of Sunday School offerings received from January through June (which the Board of Education had designated to go to the food pantry)! Your gifts will be a blessing to others! Thank you.
