Just like any well-planned cross country road trip, we’ve prepared lots of exciting things for you to do as we journey together through the month of August. Our games,activities, socials, and crafts have all been carefully selected to put you in the driver’s seat on the road to fun and adventure. You’ll notice us using everyday things like vehicle license plates, drive-thru restaurant logos, traffic signs, and road maps to explore subjects like modes of transportation, vacation destinations, and for crafting clever door decorations! We’re hitting the road; comealong and enjoythe ride!

A TASTE OF THE ISLANDS

Come experience the culture of the Hawaiian Islands with us at our 4th annual Luau on Tuesday, August 6. You can expect a lively celebration complete with a traditional luau meal and unforgettable entertainment at this festive event! We’ll be transforming the Main Dining Room into a tropical paradise to capture the “aloha spirit” of the islands. Each guest will receive his or her own lei, and you might be the lucky winner of one of our door prizes! As a special treat, the Wahini Dancers will be here to perform the Hawaiian hula. Our Mt. Carmel staff and residents are encouraged to dress in Hawaiian attire! Aloha! We’ll see you there!

THOMAS SINCLAIR

We have a very special guest, Thomas Sinclair performing for us on Tuesday, August 13. He is an accomplished pianist who enjoys playing classical music by ear, including pieces by Beethoven, Mozart, and many other famous composers. But perhaps the most fascinating fact about Thomas is that he is only nine! You’ll have to see (and hear) it to believe it! Please join us at 3:00 on the 13th.

OUT TO LUNCH OPPORTUNITIES We have two tasty “out to lunch” opportunities this month. Our lunch trips always include lots of food, fun, and fellowship! Join us on Wednesday, August 7 as we go out to lunch at Bravo Cucina Italiana in Little Rock. You’ll find all your favorite authentic Italian dishes on the menu. We’ll also be going to Charley’s, which is located just outside the Village. Charley’s is owned by Ashley, a former Mt. Carmel LPN, who is looking forward to catching up with everyone. Their menu includes a wide variety of delicious pizzas, sandwiches, and salads. We’ll be departing from the lobby at 11:30 on August 21. Bring a hearty appetite and join us on these two lunch outings!

STORIES OF WESTERN GHOST TOWNS Mt. Carmel resident, Bud Hearn will begin a new series on western ghost towns this month. His stories come from a collection of books, as well as his own travel experiences. Bud will be speaking at 10:00 in the Private Dining Room on the 7th, 14th, 19th, and 28th. Don’t miss this!
