Important Announcements

THIS WEEK’S REFLECTION:

God’s Providence Today’s readings celebrate God’s providence. No matter how wonderful (or heartbreaking) our relationships are, God always provides for us. No one cares for us the way God does. Isaiah delights us with a deeply intimate image of God caring for us “as a mother comforts her child.” The prophet describes us not as the usual “children of God,” but as “babies.” We should not resist this image, but rejoice in it. Trusting in God’s care, we can all let down our guard and rest like infants in the lap of our mother. Saint Paul’s trust in God allows him to be at peace like this. He boldly declares that no one can “make troubles” for him, because he has given himself completely to Jesus. And when Jesus sends his disciples out to preach and heal, he challenges them not to provide for themselves, but to let faith be their guide. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

PASTOR’S VISION STATEMENT:

The Catholic Community of Good Shepherd is intentional about evangelizing and making disciples in the spirit of Saints Francis and Clare, especially by seeking out the lost in need of reconciliation and conversion of heart to God, the Church, to oneself and others, so that all may experience the peace and joy of a personal relationship with Jesus. FATHER RICHARD’S SUMMER MESSAGE:

Greetings Good People from Father Richard

Peace and Goodness to you and your families! Summer is a great opportunity for us to leave our normal workload behind at least temporarily in favor of taking some downtime with family and friends in order to rejuvenate ourselves. If you are like most of us, you have had a busy year and the next year will probably be much the same. We can again give thanks to God for the many ways that we can provide for our families and homes as well as those in need around us. It is a blessing to be able to work, but it is also a blessing to take a vacation from work. Just as you and your families need a well-deserved respite, so too do our friars and staff. We can all come back to our work and ministries with renewed energy. Let us all relax in the Lord so that we can resume our work for the Lord. The Lord’s work in this past year has yielded much fruit for the Lord and for our parish family. Through our prayers and efforts, we have made great strides in our 26 building. Currently it is being renovated for use as an Evangelization Center and for our participation with Catholic Charities. Stained glass and the 15 tapestries of Saints and the Lord are already designed and this artwork will be installed in our church within a year. Glass designs of the seven Sacraments will be installed in our daily chapel at the same time. Most recently, we have acquired 3 acres of land on

the north side of our campus to facilitate the ingress and egress at our site. This has indeed been a busy year for all of us. It is time to take a breath before moving forward.

While we are vacationing this summer, let us also remember to pause daily to be in the prayerful presence of our loving God. God is love and we encounter His loving presence when we experience His mercy. Through His mercy, we are given His many gifts gratuitously because He loves us. Enjoy your vacation by spending some quality time with the Lord who loves you. Appreciate the grace of His many gifts. In your encounter with Him, be thankful for His mercy and His love. With grateful hearts, offer to Him praise and thanksgiving for this grace. Be thankful to Him not only for the many material gifts you have received from Him, but also for the gift of your spouse, your children, yourself and the community of your parish family. These human and spiritual gifts are a grace of God’s mercy that speak directly to us of His love for us. We cannot merit God’s love. He cannot help but love us even if we do not deserve His love. He loves us anyway. He is merciful. Once you personally experience the depths of God’s love for you, your heart is open to others who need to know of God’s merciful love for them. You are well on your way to becoming an evangelizer of God’s love for others. Once we experience the love of the Christ who died and rose to save us, we cannot help but be filled with the joy of the Gospel and desire to share the Good News with those we have befriended. Mass is the celebration of the Pascal Mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus. Don’t miss this at Mass every Sunday on vacation!

Since the loss of my two Aunts in California and my Uncle in New York, my summer plans no longer include coast to coast travel. Within a span of five months, the death of my mother’s siblings and their spouses has reduced the size of our family. This enabled me to scale back my vacation expenses and make a $1,000 contribution to help pay down the loan on our recent land acquisition. In this way, I was also able to give thanks to God for my family members who have died. I will begin my vacation by traveling to the Chicago area on July 8 to be with my cousins for a few days and then off to Loretto, PA for our annual gathering of friars. We will spend July 14-19 there for the solemn profession of vows by five friars, and election of a new Provincial for our TOR Franciscan Province. Then I will spend time at the Jersey Shore in Ocean, NJ and Cape May, NJ with some friar friends. Some high school classmates may also join us there. With God’s grace I plan to return to our parish on August 9 for the weekend Masses and another exciting year ahead. In the meantime, I hope you all have a wonderful, restful vacation too!

A disciple GROWS in Jesus Christ.

We accompany all who have made a commitment to follow

Christ as intentional disciples, walking with them and encouraging

them to grow in divine intimacy with God.

Be Disciples. Make Disciples.

My journey started in the Catholic Church almost 15 years ago when I met my wife who is a devout Catholic. From the beginning we started attending the Catholic Church and agreed this was how we would raise our family. We attended a couple of different Catholic churches along the way and soon found ourselves

at Good Shepherd. My son who had already received his first Holy Communion, and my daughter who was soon to follow, made me realize that now that we had found the church we loved and had grown fond of, it was time I start my own journey to becoming a Catholic.

Since Joining RCIA and learning more about the Catholic Church, it has been fulfilling and exciting. I have been drawn to the history and traditions that the Church has and the community of people that share in this faith. My faith has grown stronger knowing what I am becoming a part of, but also how I will also grow with my family. My son who has special needs is a reminder that our journey in life can be very fragile, but with the presence of faith and prayer it helps me through each day.

Since joining RCIA, I have met wonderful people, people that are strong, vulnerable, and resilient Catholics. My sponsor has been supportive and encouraging since we met. This kind of support gives me the confidence that my decision was the right one and now was the right time. I look forward to my continued journey with the Catholic Church, my newfound Catholic family, and with God.

Kyler came into full communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday, April 20, 2019.

Special Presider & Collection

Fr. Bob Mosher of the Missionary Society of St. Columban will visit Good Shepherd to preside at all Masses on July 13 & 14, and we will conduct a monetary collection to support the missionary efforts of the Columban Fathers. The Columbans are a society of missionaries who minister to people of various cultures as a way of witnessing to the universal love of God. Their vision is to establish the Church where the Gospel has not been preached and help local churches grow into evangelizing communities open to all peoples. As the director of Columban Mission Center in El Paso, Fr. Bob has been the gracious host to Good Shepherd missioners who traveled there in 2017 and February 2019 to explore and learn firsthand about the many complex issues surrounding immigration at the U.S.-Mexico Border. Parishioners can use the collection envelopes in the pews if they wish to make a donation and drop the envelopes in with our regular collection. Checks should be made payable to Good Shepherd.

Thank You, VBS Families!

Families participating in GSCC’s Vacation Bible School (VBS) program donated several thousand snack and beverage items that go into the sack lunches we give to children participating in GRACE Feed Our Kids and to homeless in Fort Worth through our Union Gospel Mission Sack Lunch Program. Thanks to your generosity, we will have water bottles, juice boxes, chips, crackers, cookies, pudding and fruit cups for more than 1,000 lunches.

Weekly Outreach Collections

We are very grateful to our GSCC parishioners who have donated to our weekly outreach collections for food and toiletries. Since January, you have donated more than 400 bins of food to GRACE and St. John’s Outreach (an increase over last year!) and 21 baskets of toiletries for the homeless. Thank you for your donations. In your travels this summer, please remember to take home the unused toiletries you receive and bring them to Good Shepherd any weekend!

A Special Thank You

A huge thank you goes out to parishioners Vern Land Sherri Ewho arranged for 55 boxes of school supplies from Old Union Elementary School in Southlake to be donated to our outreach and mission partners. Cassata Catholic High School, St. George Catholic School, SafeHaven of Tarrant County, Community Enrichment

Center, and our Honduras Mission Program all received school supplies for next year.

Jesus gave his disciples (and us) a mission to bring about the Kingdom of God on earth (Luke 10). The Gospels mention God’s Kingdom over 120 times. We pray “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth …!”

What is the Kingdom of God?

How would you know it on Earth?

How are you working for God’s Kingdom on Earth?

If you are performing works of charity and mercy now, what more can you do?

Donate and volunteer with GSCC Outreach, GRACE, or Catholic Charities.
