Message from Monsignor René Mathieu: (1) From now on, there will be no access through the handicap

entrance door at St. Joseph Church until the new ramp is complete, railings and all. This is one of the more complex features of the renova-tion, so expect that entrance to be out of service until the end of the project -- possibly another 6 or 7 weeks. Meanwhile, scheduled weekday Masses are re-located to Most Holy Trinity Church. While weekend

Masses will continue at Saint Joseph, some parishioners may want to attend Mass at one of our other church locations while work is in progress. This project is made

possible by a bequest dedicated to the care and maintenance of St. Joseph Church from the estate of Marguerite Boivin. (2) At St. Margaret Church, a copy of my letter posted

on church bulletin boards at that location explains why work on the parking lot in Old Orchard Beach has been delayed. (3) Next weekend, May 21/22 is Commitment

Weekend for the 2016 Catholic Appeal. Please come to Mass prepared to make your pledge to this effort. You can view a video describing the Appeal featuring Bishop Deeley (including two “stills” related to St. James School) at our parish website. Keep in mind that the Appeal funds ministries that directly support our parish or ministries in the parish: Office of Lifelong Faith Formation; Catholic Schools Office (including teacher pension & school rebates); Campus Ministry; Office of Communications; Harvest Magazine; St. Louis Child Development Center. Also next weekend: Knights

of Columbus, 4th Degree, will attend the 4:00 pm Saturday Mass at St. Joseph Church; fire fighters, police officers and other first responders are invited to a special 10:30am

Sunday Mass at Most Holy Trinity Church. (4) As part of a diocesan-wide evangeliza-

tion planning process, I have appointed a writing team to develop a plan for Good Shepherd Parish. Members of the team include the three assigned priests and senior

members of the parish staff (David Gadbois, Nancy Naimey, Elizabeth Williams), along with representatives of the pastoral council, finance council and school board, as well as “at-large” members: Daniel Bastarache, Nicole Dube, Chuck Gajewski, Debra Giguerre, Sr. Claire Lambert, SCIM, Aly Robillard and Thad Gabryszewski. The pro-

cess is being facilitated by the Catholic Leadership Institute (out of Philadelphia), and while the entire diocese will eventually be involved, we are among the first of six parishes/clusters beginning the process at this time. The work of this committee will continue through October. (5) Jubilee Year of Mercy (May) – Burying the Dead - This week’s suggestion: Make sure your family knows your end-of-life care wishes in case, through an accident or illness, you are unable to speak for yourself. (6) Pastoral

Council Membership: On June 30, several members of the Good Shepherd Parish Pastoral Council will conclude two full terms of service. This council is a consultative body that assists the pastor & parish staff in overseeing the pastoral care of the parish. Among other matters, it sets priorities, plans & policies for the near and long-term future. It approves the annual parish budget prepared by the Finance Council. Members are appointed by the pastor and should have some experience with the current parish

organization. Other considerations for membership include a balanced representation of lay men, women, religious & individuals with various expertise, ages and representative

of the various geographic areas of the parish. Parishioners interested in serving on the council should contact the parish life coordinator, Liz Williams, as soon as possible. (7) Thank You of the Week: To those who advertise in our weekly bulletin. Please let them know you saw their ad in these pages. Thank you!

JOKES PRIESTS CAN TELL, Vol. 6 - Msgr. Tonne: Teacher: “Tom, I am ashamed of you. When I was your age, I could reel off all the presidents in order.” Tom: “Yes, but when you were my age, there were only three or four of them.”

THANK YOU: For the past many weeks, St. Joseph Church has been blessed with the musical talents of Christine Moroni. Christine was finishing up

studies at BC this semester towards her Doctorate in Theology. While living in Biddeford, she shared her trumpet skills at many Masses at St. Joseph. We are very grateful that the Holy Spirit sent her to enrich our

liturgies these last few months, and so thankful to Chris for sharing her time and talent with us. Safe travels, Christine, as you return to Minnesota;

God be with you until we meet again!

Church in Saco (271 Main Street), on Sunday, May 29th, from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm; 2. a Holy Hour, led by Fr. Ron Labarre, 6:00 – 7:00 pm, also at

Most Holy Trinity Church; 3. a procession from Most Holy Trinity Church to the Adoration

Chapel on Thornton Avenue at 7:00 pm.

Calling ALL Good Shepherd Altar Servers: It is hoped that we will have a large number of altar servers present at the Corpus Christi Holy Hour (6 – 7 pm), followed by the proces-sion back to the Adoration Chapel. Your presence will make this celebration even more special! You should be at Most

Holy Trinity Church (with your alb) by 5:30 pm on Sunday, May 29th. We’re looking forward to seeing you there! RSVP to: Sue Anne Bellavance, 284-5860, or the altar server scheduler at your church.

Prayer for the Success of the 2016 Catholic Appeal O God our Creator and loving Father, without any merit of our own

you freely gave us our existence and enriched it with your precious gifts of faith, hope and love. Help us to share God’s mercy with one another,

and give as generously as we ourselves have received from you. We offer the gifts of ourselves, our time, talents and treasures as true acts of faith that reflect our love for you and our neighbor. Accept our

offerings as a token of gratitude for all you have done. Help us to reach out to others as you, our Lord and God, have reached out to us. May our faithful stewardship bear witness to the love and mercy of Jesus

Christ in our lives. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Special Event in Biddeford: On May 21st the Knights of Columbus are having a special event in the Good Shepherd Parish in Biddeford. All parishioners are invited to this special activity, our 4th Degree Exemplification. The event will include ceremonies at the Little Theater at Biddeford High School, and Mass at St. Joseph Church, culminating in a huge banquet at the Rochambeau Club on South Street. Some 300 Knights of Columbus, some in full regalia, will be present to witness the knighting of our Sir Knights. Knights from Biddeford, and throughout the State of Maine will be participating. After marching through the streets of Biddeford, the whole delegation will be entering St. Joseph Church for this very festive occasion. This will certainly be an eye-opening, jaw-dropping event. Please share this occasion with us. The Knights will depart the Little Theater at Biddeford High on Maplewood Avenue at 3:00 pm; then, with a police escort, will march along South Street to Elm Street and enter St. Joseph Church for a 4 pm Mass, concelebrated by Monsignor René Mathieu, the Honoree of the event, and Father Labarre, the Knights of Columbus State Friar. In fellowship with our parishioners - Mike Bolduc, Faithful Navigator, Assembly #2871, Biddeford.
