Message from Monsignor René Mathieu: (1) We welcome summer visitors to our parish. We hope your visit is restful and enjoyable. We look forward every year to your participating in weekend liturgies, and you are invited to join in other parish activities as well. (2) A reception to honor Father Antony will be held next Sunday afternoon, July 24, at Most Holy Trinity Church Hall. He has been appointed hospital chaplain at Maine Medical Center & Mercy Hospital in Portland effective August 1, and will be succeeded here by a

priest of the Apostles of Jesus; two members of this African religious order are already serving in Maine. (3) At St. Joseph Church, the handicap parking area should have been filled this week, and the remaining granite curbing for the handicap access in-stalled. A grader was to have prepared all remaining unpaved surfaces. By now, clean-ing the granite, repointing the existing stairs and installing any new granite should be complete. Brick pavers should have been installed. We have a tentative date for Wednesday the 20th to have 1300 feet of concrete curb installed. The final coat of pavement can then be laid with striping to follow. (4) From a decree signed by Robert Cardinal Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (June 3, 2016): “The Church, both in the East and in the West has always regarded Saint Mary Magdalene the first witness of the Lord’s resurrection and the first evangelist, and with the greatest reverence has always honoured her although in diverse ways. Given that in our time the Church is called to reflect in a more profound way on the dignity of Woman, on the New Evangelisation and on the greatness of the Mystery of Divine Mercy, it seemed right that the example of Saint Mary Magdalene might also fittingly be proposed to the faithful. In fact this woman, known as the one who loved Christ and who was greatly loved by Christ, and was called a ‘witness of Divine Mercy’ by Saint Gregory the Great and an ‘apostle of the apostles’ by Saint Thomas Aquinas, can now rightly be taken by the faithful as a model of women’s role in the Church. Therefore the Supreme Pontiff Pope Francis has estab-lished that from now on the celebration of Saint Mary Magdalene [on July 22] should be inscribed in the General Roman Calendar with the rank of Feast rather than Memo-rial as is presently the case.” A new preface entitled “Preface of the Apostle of the Apostles” will be used during this Mass. (5) Five parishioners will leave July 22 for World Youth Day in Poland, returning to Maine on August 1. We promise our prayerful support for a safe journey and many blessings. This every-three-years event was begun by Saint John Paul II. (6) A special gathering of all Maine altar servers & their families is scheduled for Sunday, August 21, at St. Mary’s Church & Grounds in Augusta, beginning with a 2 pm Mass with Bishop Deeley. Details for this Altar Server Festival are provided on posters in all our churches. If transportation is a prob-lem, I’m sure we could find a way for folks to “buddy up.” (7) Jubilee Year of Mercy (July) – Blessed are the Merciful – This week’s suggestion: Learn about your parish’s ministries and volunteer opportunities. Is there one to which you could contribute your time, talent, or treasure? Not all require long-term commitments. (8) Thank You of the Week: To the youth and adults who volunteered to work with our parish staff to lead various elements of this year’s Vacation Bible Camp (June 27-July 1) for children. Thank you!

Stop & Pick Up a Clynk Bag and help the Youth Ministry today!

Tell family, friends and businesses that they can obtain a Clynk bag from church foyers (or the

parish office) to assist our youth ministry in their fundraising efforts. This program is enabled by

the generosity of some of our parishioners, who donate the bags for this cause. The proceeds of the bottles/cans allow our parish

to offer financial aid to those attending the annual, Diocesan youth events here in Maine: Journey Retreat and the Catholic

Youth Ministry Convention; as well as to supplement other youth events in Good Shepherd Parish.

Look for Clynk bags in church foyers, or stop by the parish office to obtain one!

We sincerely thank you for your help!
