With blues music in his “DNA”, an influence largely

from his father’s record collection, Diesel has

blended all styles to come up with a truly unique sound,

punctuated with his distinct guitar playing and vocals.Rewind to 2005… ‘Singled Out’ is released - a solo live recording which is the catalyst for Diesel embarking

on a juggernaut solo tour, a tour that will establish him as a solo performer. Eight years on and Diesel has evolved into a solo artist of great diversity. Alongside the hits and rarities people have grown to expect from an artist of longevity, Diesel blends his influences by also playing tracks from Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Neil Young

(to name a few) combined with the unique ‘theatre’ environment, it makes for an all encompassing musical experience. All tickets $55. Contact the box office on 03 57228105, between 10am-4pm Monday-Friday, 33 - 37 Ford Street, Wangaratta.

In 2011 Oh What A Night performed throughout the east

coast of Australia and was a resounding success and exceeded all expecta-tions resulting in over 50 shows during their 10 week schedule. The show includes all the hits including Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like a Man, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Rag Doll, Grease, Dawn, Silence is Golden, Working My Way Back to You, My Eyes Adored You, Stay, Oh What a Night! and Let’s Hang On and many

more. This is expected to be a sell out so book early to avoid disappointment.Ticket price: Adults $39.50, concession $34.50. Contact the box office on 03 57228105, between 10am-4pm Monday-Friday, 33 - 37 Ford Street, Wangaratta.

Emili Rackemann will perform on Wednesday, December 12 from

6:00pm – 7:00pm. Emili has been immersed in music since her childhood on a remote cattle station in Queensland. She developed an inquisitive-ness towards the piano at age four and began composing at age 13. Later she studied at the Queensland Conservato-rium of Music.Emili traces her musical lineage to William Rackemann, renowned for exquisite performances of Beethoven’s

work while touring with Clara Schumann in Germany and New York in the late 1800s.With three albums and more than 50 compositions for solo and duo piano, Emili herself will head to New York early next year for a series of intimate recitals of her work.Emili’s compositions are a blend storytelling and visualisations. She describes her work as ‘classical rehashed and reformed’. Whilst fond of Rachmaninoff, she is also influenced by the visuals of film producer, director,

writer and artist, Tim Burton. Currently Emili is sourcing opportunities to compose for film.Be captivated by Emili’s creativity and musicality as she plays original piano compositions from her Vintage Women series – slightly quirky and sonically classical.Ticket prices: Adults $12, concession $8, children 15 years and under $5. Contact the box office on 03 57228105, between 10am-4pm Monday-Friday, 33 - 37 Ford Street, Wangaratta.

Jimmy Barnes is back at the ski club

Jimmy Barnes returns to the Mulwala Water Ski Club on Saturday, January 19 as part of the Red Hot Summer Tour.

His special guests include Baby Animals, Ian Moss, Dragon and Choco-

late Starfish. This is the biggest line-up The Red Hot Summer Tour has put together yet making this undoubtedly one of the biggest concert experiences on the Australian touring circuit.Jimmy Barnes has proved to be one of the biggest attractions ever to come to Yarrawonga Mulwala, his previous perform-ances packing the ski club lagoon area where the concerts take place. As a legend both from his time

fronting Cold Chisel and his top charting solo career, Barnes has toured the breadth of Australia. With 16 solo albums under his belt, he has an enviable back catalogue that makes for incred-ible live performances with songs like Working Class Man, When Your Love Is Gone and No Second Prize to name a few. Jimmy Barnes has headlined The Red Hot Summer Tour in previous years and is back by popular demand for the 2013 massive Aussie Rock Extrava-ganza. This will be a sell out so book early. Tickets start from $79.90 (+BF) and are available from Ticketmaster 136 100, www.tick-etmaster.com.au and Mulwala Waterski Club (03) 5744 277, ww.mulwalawaterski.com.au.

Not just a guy in a bandBy Fiona Blick

Chocolate Starfish frontman Adam Thompson is almost local.

Born in Tallygaroopna, his family still lives in the area and he comes

back regularly to visit. And now, after the reforming of his hit ‘90s band, he will be touring with the popular Red Hot Summer Tour concert series.“It has been a good 12 years since we have all performed to a big audience so it will be quite nerve wracking,” Adam told the Yarrawonga Chronicle. “But we are a really entertaining band with lots of audience participa-tion so we are expecting to put on a good show.”Their first success was with a cover of Carly Simon's

"You're So Vain", which reached number 11 on the ARIA Charts in September 1993. Another single "Moun-tain" attracted significant radio airplay and reached number 12 in March 1994. In 2011, Chocolate Star-fish announced they were reforming to continue performing together and work on new studio mate-rial. These plans suffered a devastating setback when on March 31 of this year, their guitarist Zoran Romich died of cancer.“It really was a terrible blow, heartbreaking for all of us,” Adam said.Guitarist Tim Henwood of The Androids and Superjesus fame stepped into the breach.“People will probably know Tim by his song ‘Do It With Madonna’,” Adam said. “He has just been a terrific asset. We will be performing all our

old hits with a few new ones thrown in. Freddy Mercury was a hero of mine and a master of the sing-a-long so I hope to be doing some of that as well.”Adam’s life in the past decade has been far removed from the rock star life in his early years. He is now working with children in indigenous communities producing documentaries which promote health, education and employment through song, drama and dance.“We have had great success; I am humbled by my expe-riences,” he said. “It is wonderful to be affecting change in these disadvan-taged children.”Chocolate Starfish will be appearing at the Mulwala Water Ski Club’s Red Hot Summer Tour with The Baby Animals, Ian Moss, Dragon and Jimmy Barnes on Saturday, January 19.Chocolate Starfish.

Lake Mulwala & The Murray River 1st - 2nd Dec 2012

History in the makingThe Cod Classic is organised and run entirely by a dedicated and loyal band of volunteers from the Mulwala Football Netball Club. The competition raises funds to help keep the club afloat and maintain and redevelop the multi-purpose community centre based at Lonsdale Reserve. The idea of running a fishing competition for the club was first conceived by club president Brian McKee in early 2000. Almost overnight the club was up and running and “The Big Catch” was born. This event was held for the first time in late February 2000 attracting only 44 competitors. From that day on the direction of the competition and the date of the event has changed to make it into what it is today, the Cod Classic Australia’s richest freshwater fishing event.

Unofficially, the congregation of trailerable boats at the Cod Classic is a world record of the largest amount of fishing boats ever assembled at the one point at the same time. This is an amazing sight to see but surprisingly there is still plenty of room to fish on the lake and river. Apart from being a major fundraiser for the club, proceeds of the competition are also donated back into the local community. Groups to have benefited in the past have been Mulwala and Yarrawonga Primary Schools, Yarrawonga SES and Mulwala and Yarrawonga Fire Brigades. The committee of the Cod Classic strives to make this the best fishing event on the calendar and guarantee anybody who makes the trip to Yarrawonga/Mulwala for the competition will not go home disappointed. Attend a Cod Classic and become part of the history!

For more information visit www.codclassic.com.auAndrew Junker (Werribee) was one of the lucky winners of a boat last year.

pygmy perch, Murray hardyhead, oriental weather-

loach and mosquitofish. Three species of freshwater

shrimp are present as well as yabbies.

For the best result anglers are advised to obtain

detailed information from local fishing and bait shops,

most who have dedicated their lives to learning about

the elusive Murray Cod, where they can be found and

what bait or lure will make them bite.

Ryan Gray from Eltham holds the record for the biggest cod caught by his family after hooking a giant 48lb monster at the annual Cod Classic. Ryan caught the cod at Bundalong using a Bardi Grub for bait. It was a tagged fish and the anglers recorded the details and forwarded them to the fisheries department. They released the fish straight after the photo was taken.

Mick Gray and James Sprating landed a 39cm Yellow Belly at Cod opening last year, attracting plenty of interest from nearby fisherman.

Ian ‘Painter’ Rogers from Corowa with a 93cm Cod.

Of all of Australia’s freshwater fish the Murray Cod remains one of the most challenging.

From the time of the early European settlers who came across these inland monsters the Murray Cod’s legend grew.Murray Cod are the largest freshwater fish in Australia and one of the largest in the world, the record Murray Cod recorded was over 1.8 metres (6ft) and weighed approximately 113 kilograms (250lb).Murray cod populations have declined severely since European colonisation of Australia due to a number of causes including severe over-fishing including large commercial operations, the introduction of European Carp, river regu-lation and habitat degradation and are now a listed threatened species.Strict fishing regulations including bag limits, closed seasons and a greater emphasis on catch and release by anglers have seen their numbers remain steady in recent years which augurs well for future generations yet to expe-rience these mighty predators.Lake Mulwala is recognised as one of the best locations to catch a Murray Cod and from December 1 at the opening of the season, now even more famous since the launch of the Cod Classic fishing competition, then until August 31 when the season closes there is a steady stream of anglers testing their skills from the bank or in a tinny. Hopeful they too can have their picture taken with a mighty Murray Cod.

Fishing the Murray River

The Murray River is all New South Wales water and NSW regulations apply. A NSW fishing licence is required when fishing in the river, even if the angler is standing on the Victorian bank. A Victorian Recreational Fishing Licence is not valid for angling in the Murray River with the exception of Lake Hume. The water level of the Murray River is controlled by releases from Lake Hume and the numerous dams and weirs downstream. Fishing is greatly influenced by the resulting fluctuations in flow and changes in water level.
