The history of Google Docs

Originated: Writely and Google Spreadsheets  Acquisition of the XL2Web product by 2Web Technologies   March 9,2006, Google announced that it had acquired Upstartle. Google Spreadsheets using the technology it had acquired from 2Web Technologies in 2005 and launched Google Labs Spreadsheets   

The history of Google Docs February 2007,  made available to Google Apps users.     June 2007, changed the front page to include folders instead of labels, organized in a side bar.    September 17, 2007,  released their presentation program product for Google Docs. 

The history of Google Docs  July 6, 2009, announced on their official blog that Google Docs along with other Google Apps would be taken out of beta.    January 13, 2010, announced on their official blog that Google Docs would allow any file type   March 5, 2010, DocVerse, an online document collaboration company, was acquired by Google.  

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages  Allows for one type of file to be used.   Using different programs through windows will not have trouble accessing the file and the format of the file will not change according to the program being used to view.   This will save a lot of time in re-editing and miscommunication through multiple files.   

Advantages   Ease of publishing. allows for one-click publishing. This saves time signing up and into a file hosting website.  One copy of file. Having uploaded your files to the internet,  no need for extensive copies of edited versions that can be difficult to keep track of.  Ease of communication and collaboration. no need to be online to send files between people as all files have been assigned a uniform resource locator

Advantages and Disadvantages

Disadvantages    Features are basic.  only have the most basic features needed to write and edit a document.   Inability to work offline.  you must have an internet connection.  Incompatible with Mac OS. Only those who have the latest version of IWorks 2008 can export files from Google doc.
