INTRODUCTION
• Autonomous vehicle
• Automated guided vehicle (AGV).
• Devoleped by Google engineer Sebastin and team• (won the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge)
• On May 28, 2014, Google presented a new prototype of their driverless car .
History
Sebastian Thrun invented the
Google driverless car
prevent traffic accidents, free up
people’s time and reduce carbon
emission by fundamentally
changing car use”-Sebastian Thrun
The Google Driverless car was
tested in the year 2010
Behind the technology
1. Daily accidents2. For aged persons3. Fuel consumption
Features
• G P S
• Automatic steering
• Automatic parking
• Safety
COMPONENTS
• LIDAR SENSOR
• RADAR SENSOR
• VIDEO CAMERA
• POSITION ESTIMATOR
LIDAR SENSOR “The heart of the system”
The LIDAR (Light detection
and Ranging) sensor is a
scanner
scanner contains 64 lasers
that are send to
surroundings of the car
through the air
“The heart of the system generates a detailed 3D map of environment (velodyne 64- beam laser).
The map accessed from the GPRS connection .
RADAR SENSOR Three RADAR sensors are
fixed in front of the bumper
and one in the rear bumper
measures the distance to
various obstacles and allow
the system to reduce the
speed of the car
The back side of sensor will
locate the position of the car
on the map
VIDEO CAMERA
video camera is fixed near the rear view mirror
detects traffic lights and any moving objects in front of the car
done by the artificial intelligence software.
POSITION ESTIMATOR
A sensor mounted on the left
rear wheel
measures small movements
made by the car and helps to
accurately locate its position
on the map
The position of the car can
be seen on the monitor.
ARTIFICIAL INTELIGENCE
Google maps and the hardware sensor data are sent to the AIAI Then determines: How fast to accelarate When to slow down/stop When to steer the wheelGoal of AI: The agent’s goal is to take the passenger to its desired destination safely and legaly

SENSING AND SENSOR FUSION
AUTOMATED HIGHWAY SYSTEMS (AHS)
construct special lanes on existing highways
magnets or other infrastructure to allow vehicles to stay in the center of the lane .
A central system communicating with other vehicles to avoid collision and manage traffic.
ADVANTAGES
• Saving parking places
• Efficient use of highways
• Optimal speed
• Avoid accidents
CONCLUSION
• It is a latest technology.Google driverless car driven 230,000 km without any incidents .In 2008, begin testing driverless cars and they could be on the road by 2018.
