Hopefully your holiday was as enjoyable as mine where I engaged in a great deal of bike riding because Julia my partner wasn’t on holiday. If you like bike riding I can recommend a number of designated bike path rides that will help you explore the many features of our beauƟful city. There are many safe bike paths along the ParramaƩa River culminaƟng with a ride around ParramaƩa Park. If you become a liƩle weary on the ride you always have the opƟon of catching a ride on the Rivercat. Also if you become hungry the Western Sydney University Campus, through which you will ride, has a number of cafes selling delicious food. Homebush Bay is famous for its many and varied bike paths. For the more adventurous you can ride all of the way to the airport and beyond if you so desire. However my favourite ride is from Milson’s Point over the Harbour Bridge, around the Harbour foreshores, then over the Anzac Bridge to the “Bay Walk”, returning to Milson’s Point via the Iron Cove Bridge and Darling Harbour. There are also many variaƟons of this ride available. We certainly live in a beauƟful city! Our Year 5 and Year 6 staff and children returned from a very successful trip to Canberra and the Snowy Mountains on Wednesday evening of this week. A big thank you to Mrs Sheldon the teacher in charge and her very enthusiasƟc staff team of Mrs Waugh, Ms Lawson, Mrs Dudley, Mrs Yeow, Ms Denyer, Mr Lee and Mrs Wood for giving up their most valuable family Ɵme to ensure that the students of Gordon West can experience a school excursion of this nature which is so beneficial to their social development. By all reports the trip was a wonderful experience. GWPS teachers enjoying life on the slopes. Questacon

Dates to Remember

Welcome back to Term 3 where we look forward to a very exci ng term. Hopefully your holiday was as enjoyable as mine where I engaged in a great deal of bike riding because Julia my partner wasn’t on holiday. If you like bike riding I can recommend a number of designated bike path rides that will help you explore the many features of our beau ful city. There are many safe bike paths along the Parrama a River culmina ng with a ride around Parrama a Park. If you become a li le weary on the ride you always have the op on of catching a ride on the Rivercat. Also if you become hungry the Western Sydney University Campus, through which you will ride, has a number of cafes selling delicious food. Homebush Bay is famous for its many and varied bike paths. Once again our school resembled a construc on site over the course of the vaca on when the remainder of the playground concre ng was completed. Congratula ons and thank you to Tradewinds, the contractor on the professional manner in which they completed this rather large undertaking with minimal disrup on to the school. Thank you to Salvatore Castelnuovo our resident “Jack of all Trades” for working so hard to ensure the safety of the Gordon West school community during this very hec c period of construc on. Sam’s work is invaluable on so many levels. The quality of the work completed was so high we now have to evaluate the appropriateness of our very old gardens. The Gordon West Ground’s Commi ee will meet with the Tradewinds contractor tomorrow to discuss op ons available to us. Parents are advised that the handball courts will be restored once the concrete has cured which we have been informed will be at least 30 days a er the concrete has been laid. Mrs Garland and her Showcase Commi ee have included an overview of our new format plans for our Showcase Spectacular to be held on Thursday 12 September. Reasons why we have changed the format of this event will be very carefully explained to our parent body and we will be seeking your help to ensure that the new format is a resounding success. We have also adopted the P&C and FRASC sugges on to ban all large iPad devices from the performance and have requested that iPhone usage be kept to a minimum and not adversely interfere with audience members. We inves gated the possibility of producing a video of the event but have decided against this ini a ve because of legal advice in rela on to the privacy and copyright issues involved. Representa ves of the Showcase Commi ee have met with Mr O’Keefe President of the Gordon West P&C and with Mrs Jull President of the FRASC to explain the reasons for the radical changes to the format of this

most pres gious event. We were very fortunate with our Athle cs Carnival held at Bannockburn Oval on Wednesday 24 July where on a glorious winter’s day everyone had a wonderful

me. A big thank you to Mr Sparke and Mr Lee who at very short no ce stepped in to organise the carnival when our sport’s teacher Mrs Park gained a merit selec on posi on at a private school during the recent vaca on. Under the guidance of these two gentlemen, with the help of many teachers and parent volunteers the carnival ran like clockwork as we would have expected at Gordon West. It was a glorious day on so many levels with the Subway lunch and coffee van proving a major success. Congratula ons to the Gordon West students who par cipated so enthusias cally and all teachers and parent helpers for having so a great a tude and par cipa ng so readily on the day. Finally to the many spectators, thank you for being there and for your ongoing support. A carnival report and results will be published in the next bulle n. It is that me of year again. School planning for 2020 has commenced and we seek your assistance in le ng us know if you are planning on enrolling a child at Gordon West for 2020 or if your child will not be a ending Gordon West next year.
