On just about any bicycle from a Pro Tour road race bike to a Kona-ready triathlon machine to a long travel downhill or freeride mountain bike, GORE® RIDE ON® Cable Systems (GROCS) offer better shifting precision, improved braking control, superior performance in remote lever applications (suspension lockout or adjustable seatpost) and require less maintenance. This translates to an improved riding experience and increased confidence in the performance of your bike—in almost any conditions.

Utilizing a combination of patented cable coatings, lubricants, seals, housings and liners, GROCS offer significant reduction in cable friction, immediately improving the precision, performance and feel of any cable actuated system on any bicycle, and particularly benefitting systems that rely on complex cable routing (many of today’s aero road bikes) or tight cable housing bends (under the handlebar tape on road bikes, or on full suspension bikes that require the housing to move as the suspension moves).

In most any riding conditions, a GROCS system has been designed to outlast a standard cable system in terms of sustained performance and cable system durability. However, because GROCS are available in both fully sealed and a semi-sealed configurations (to fit any bike from a Pro Tour road race bike to a long travel downhill or freeride mountain bike), this performance advantage is exceptionally apparent in tough conditions—rain, mud, sand, etc. Contamination and corrosion are the two biggest causes of degraded cable performance. With fully coated cables and sealed systems, GROCS eliminate these issues.

bicycling magazine, Sept 2010 Issue Shimano Dura Ace 7900 long-term test.

“[With Shimano Dura Ace 7900], our main nitpick revolved around the new under-the-tape cable routing that improves aesthetics but requires more careful setup and more frequent maintenance than 7800’s externally routed cables did. Now, we’ve had the most consistent and longest lasting shift quality after upgrading to GORE’S RIDE ON Professional Cables.”

Every time the major component manufacturers add a gear to the drivetrain of the modern road bike (8, 9, 10, 11...), they create a system that requires increased precision relative to the previous generation in order to operate smoothly and effectively. This means that frame and derailleur hangers have to be more precisely aligned. It means that derailleurs and shifters must be more precisely adjusted. and it means that even the slightest increase in cable and housing friction, whether from wear or contamination, can ruin shifting performance.

Compounding the issue, now all of the major manufacturers route shift cables under the handlebar tape, forcing the cable through tight, friction increasing bends and making it harder to maintain your cables and housing (since they are under the tape).

This is where the GORE RIDE ON Cable Systems (GROCS) advantage comes into play. Using GROCS, you will realize an immediate improvement in shifting performance and more system durability—sustained improvement in shifting (long after traditional cables and housing would have worn out) is a hallmark of GROCS shifting systems. you will also realize increased value and decreased time maintaining your bike. Using GROCS means less frequent cable changes (and less frequent handlebar tape changes, too).

Similarly, with GROCS brake cable systems, you will realize immediate improvement in braking performance—braking action will feel more crisp and responsive. modulation and control will be improved. System contamination and corrosion will be reduced, and the lifespan of your brake cable and housing will greatly increase.

action was much lighter. In bad conditions, the housing and

cables held up over time.”

Sealed Low Friction Systems are suited to the worst road and cyclocross conditions and use a full-length liner so that the coated cable is never exposed to the elements at any time. Sealed systems deliver the most durability and resistance to the elements for your road or cyclocross bike.

Low Friction Systems offer the friction reducing advantages of Ride On cable systems without the full length liner or seal system. This makes them particularly well suited to riders who want improved performance and durability, but who rarely face tough conditions in terms of weather or contamination.

There are three GORE® RIDE ON® Cable Systems (GROCS) for road bike applications, all of which are available in derailleur and brake cable configurations:

Professional Systems are just what you would expect, GROCS’s most high-technology, lightweight, performance packed solution for the demands of professional racing and riders who choose the best equipment for their bikes. GORE RIDE ON Professional systems use a combination of lubricated housing, coated cables and a series of custom ferrules and Grub™ seals to deliver all of the benefits available from GROCS. The cables in the Professional System are the same cables that come stock on SRam® RED® component groups and that are used by all SRam® RED® equipped professional teams and riders.

Mud, sand, rain, grit, dust and infinite variations therein. Performance, precision, technology, equipment. Passion, effort, progression and competition. mountain biking marries all of these elements and more in one glorious package that is equal parts awe inspiring and demanding in its purest embodiments.

as component manufacturers develop mountain bike drivetrains in 10 speed configurations, the demand for shifting precision is every bit as high as it is for road bikes. However, in the mountain bike world, equipment is subject to extreme conditions as the norm, not the exception. and the movement of suspension systems further complicates the demands placed on cable systems—both in terms of routing and in terms of (literally) demanding increased flexibility to move with the suspension as it compresses and extends.

Nowhere are the advantages of GORE RIDE ON Cable Systems (GROCS) more apparent than in the dirt. Decreased friction means increased precision. Sealing from the elements extends durability and decreases the need for maintenance. multiple GROCS product options means that there is a RIDE ON off-road solution for you and your bike.

Sealed Low Friction Shift SystemCompletely sealed, end-to-end. Designed to be impervious to contamination or corrosion. Conditions that will destroy traditional cables in a day (especially if you don’t lubricate them right away) mean nothing to this cable system. Ride in the mud. Ride in the sand. Ride in the rain. Hit your bike with the pressure washer afterwards. GROCS shrugs it all off and is ready to go again immediately.

Sealed Low Friction Brake System look, we know that hydraulic disc brakes are more and more prevalent. but if you’re running rim brakes, cable actuated discs, or even a flat bar road bike, then that doesn’t matter so much. What matters in those applications is cable performance, and (maybe you’re noticing a theme here) GROCS delivers cable performance. Period.

Extra Long Sealed Low Friction System For bikes with unusual cable routing, exceptionally long wheel travel, cables exposed to rock strikes, tandems, basically for any bike that creates a particularly difficult environment for cables and housing, we’ve created the Extra long System. It enables you to run a full length of sealed housing from shifter to derailleur and lever to brake, delivering the absolute best possible durability.

NEW! Remote Lever System That great new remote suspension lockout or travel adjustment lever you just bought? Or the one for your adjustable seat post? Odds are that it is cable actuated, and subject to the same riding environment and potential for contamination as any other cable system on your bike. So don’t take chances with it. Now, with the GROCS Remote lever System, you can be sure that your suspension and seat post adjustments continue to work flawlessly in tough riding conditions, increasing your confidence in your bike and decreasing the amount of time you spend maintaining your bike. because seriously, who wants to have to change the cables and housing on their seat post all the time?
