1 Place the product(s) to be shipped as compactly as possible on a flat surface .

2 Measure the product dimensions (length, width, and height) .

3 If refrigerant is required, allow sufficient additional space . Depending on the refrigerant that will be used, it may be necessary to allow for space on one or more sides of the product . (Refrigerants can be found on pages 8-9 .)

4 From the inside dimensions column, (see charts, pages 4-5) select the smallest container that will hold your product(s) and any necessary refrigerant . For best results, use a container with at least 1½" thick walls . For short trips or less temperature-sensitive products, containers with ¾"–1⅛" thick walls may be adequate .

5 Place the product(s) and refrigerant in the container . Use a temperature data logger to monitor the temperature of the shipment while in transit .

6 Before closing the insulated container, fill all empty space with crumpled paper or other packing material to help maximize insulating performance .

Selecting the Best Insulated Shipper and Refrigerant: Some Simple Guidelines

A number of different factors must be considered when selecting the container and refrigerant that will best protect your product against heat and physical damage during shipment.

For example:

• Does the product need to remain frozen or refrigerated?

• How long will it be in transit?• Is the product of uniform shape or is it

irregular? • What ambient temperatures do you expect?*

These guidelines are intended to help you select the best insulated container and refrigerant for shipping your product. Please note that following these guidelines however, does not guarantee adequate thermal protection. ThermoSafe Brands strongly recommends that you use them as the basis for selecting a container and/or refrigerant for testing and evaluation.
