The Master’s program in Governance and Human Rights imparts the capacity for critical understanding and the tools required to assess and apply legal and political governance theories, as well as human rights norms and standards. The applied project learning methods will enable the students to acquire the skills to apply the good governance tools needed to establish, implement and protect human rights.

This is a hands-on program, giving central importance to project-based learning. The students’ work is accompanied by international scholars and practitioners. PROJECT-ORIENTED TEACHING

As a student, you learn how to put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired through the Master’s degree in Governance and Human Rights. Not only the courses, in which tools are presented, impart these skills, but also an integrated practice-based project: you work while studying on an individual project in the fi eld of governance and human rights from your professional practice. In the course of four semesters, you acquire a total of 90 Credit Points (CP) in an extra-professional qualifi cation.

The fi rst semester deals with the fundamentals of governance and human rights. You will also learn how to analyze complex problems. The second semester sees you expanding your knowledge of human rights for special groups and getting acquainted with international law-enforcement agencies. Further-more, in the module on “Social Change: Campaigning, Social Media and Communication”, you engage in the development and technical support of campaigns, as well as successful project management.

In the third semester, you are concerned with human rights regimes for various regions and particular groups and learn how to protect human rights with the help of these regimes. In the fourth semester, you expand your practical skills again and, together with your co-students, organize a conference dealing with a specifi c issue, which you selected. This is also the time when you write your Master’s thesis.
