    Local Government

    Federal and Provincial Representation

    Maple Ridge is in the provincial electoral district of Maple Ridge-

    Pitt Meadows, and in the federal riding of Dewdney Alouette. From

    these constituencies we send a representative to sit as a Member of theLegislative Assembly (MLA) in Victoria, and one to sit as a Member of

    Parliament (MP) in Ottawa.

    Municipal Administration

    The District of Maple Ridge is governed by an elected Council

    consisting of a Mayor and six Councillors, all elected for a three year

    term. Council meetings are held in the Council Chambers at Municipal

    Hall every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

    Federal and Provincial Agencies

    Post Office

    Maple Ridge's main post office is located at 20800 Lougheed

    Highway. Other postal outlets offering services on a smaller scale

    can be found throughout Maple Ridge.

    Human Resources Centres of Canada

    Formerly Canada Employment & Immigration Centre, it is

    located at 22325 Lougheed Highway.

    Government Agent Office / Motor Vehicle Branch

    Located at 22787 Dewdney Trunk Road, these offices have

    merged to offer their services at greater convenience to their clients.

    B.C. Assessment Authority

    The B.C. Assessment Authority's task is to assess land values

    for taxation purposes. The office has recently moved to the nearby

    Municipality of Pitt Meadows at #200- 19141 Ford Road, from

    where it serves communities from the TriCities of Coquitlam, Port

    Coquitlam, and Port Moody, to the Northeast Fraser Valley.

    Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC)

    The claims centre is located at 22811 Dewdney Trunk Road.

    You may also use a Dial-A-Claim phone line to file an accident

    claim with ICBC.

    Social Services and Housing

    District offices are found at 102-22522 Lougheed Highway.

    Attorney General

    Services available within the District include: Probation

    Office, Provincial Court, Family Court, Small Claims Court, and

    Crown Counsel Office.

    Environmental Services

    A Conservation Officer for the District is located in the

    District Field Office at 20450 Dewdney Trunk Road.

    Garbage Disposal Inquiries .....................466-9277Maple Ridge homeowners and tenants are responsible for their

    own residential waste removal. All acceptable solid waste not

    collected by commercial haulers may be taken to the Transfer

    Station located at 10092 236th Street. Only wastes originating in

    the district will be accepted, with a proof of residence. The transfer

    station is operated by S.S.G. Holdings Ltd. for the Greater

    Vancouver Regional District.

    Some restrictions of materials do apply, so individuals should

    check with the GVRD if they wish to dispose of questionable

    material.

    Hours of operation: Monday to Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    Recycling Inquiries .....................463-5545

    The Ridge-Meadows Recycling Society (RMRS) operates a

    recycling depot at 10092 - 236th Street, close to the Albion Ferry.

    In addition to recycling services at the depot, the RMRS provides

    job training for adults with intellectual impairments.

    Composting Inquiries .....................463-2229Maple Ridge now has it own Compost Education Garden, locatedin the heart of historic Port Haney. A joint project of the Ridge-Meadows Recycling Society and the Fraser Information Society,the compost garden provides a terrific environment for learningabout composting techniques. Open from April through October,guided tours can be booked through the RMRS at 463-5545.
