In view of the increased perception of biological sciences towards Industrialization and health
education, the Nagarjuna University has introduced Microbiology subject in under graduate level in
Degree colleges. The subject was introduced as restructured B.Sc course in combination with
botany and chemistry as Mi.B.C and Biochemistry and chemistry as Mi.Bi.C
Department was established in the year 1998.
Microbiology was started in combination with - Microbiology-Botany-chemistry
and Microbiology- Biochemistry -Chemistry
Department was started with two staff members.
At present the combinations are – Microbiology-Botany-chemistry
and Microbiology-zoology-Chemistry.
4. Programmes / Courses Offered (with codes) with Objectives
1. B.Sc MBC (Microbiology, Botany, Chemistry)
2. B.Sc MZC (Microbiology, Zoology, Chemistry)
Objectives of the programme
The aim of the BSc Degree in Microbiology, Botany/Zoology and chemistry is to enable the
students to acquire basic training in all the three subjects in terms of acquiring knowledge of
microorganisms, biological sciences and chemical sciences. Specifically, the students, after
completing the Bachelors degree will obtain a critical and updated vision of the main issues
in the fields of all the three subjects and knowing how to use theoretical knowledge,
laboratory and experimental procedures in order to understand the basic concept in
respective subjects.
To prepare the students to accept the challenges in life sciences
To make them learn the skills required in various industries, research labs and in the field of
human health.
To provide the exposure to students to different processes used in industries and in research
field.
To make the students understand the scientific methods and help them to develop
observation and critical analysis skills, collection, evaluation and classification of data;
deducing conclusions; formulating hypotheses.
To provide opportunities for the students to engage in productive scholarly research projects
that complements their classroom training and instruction.
To assist students in developing self-learning and the ability to keep knowledge and skills
up to date; team work and communication
To train the graduate microbiologists technologically and vocationally to work for a wide
range of employers, including , universities, National Blood Service an Health Protection

Agency, industries including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, food and beverages,
breweries ,dairies, consumer goods and water supply, in health-care delivery particularly in
pathological and immunological laboratories as well as forensic laboratories, environmental
monitoring, as well as research.
To made the students able to know how to use the information and communication
technologies to access scientific bibliographical resources.
Our objective is to train people who will develop the society technologically particularly in
areas relating to human welfare and development
To also critically evaluate knowledge sources and uses evidence-based approach to acquire
new knowledge.
Courses Offered (with codes) with Objectives:
MB-1308 Introductory microbiology:
The students will appreciate the contributions of renowned microbiologists and importance
of microbiology in human life.
The learners will acquire the knowledge of diversified groups of microbes and skills in
different microbiological techniques.

Students were able to understand the genetic components, their functions and genetic
recombination in bacteria.
They acquire the knowledge about chemical and molecular processes that occur in and
between cells so that they are able to describe and
explain these processes and how they influence the life of living organisms.
MB 4308: Immunology and Medical Microbiology:
The student acquires the ability to recall the principles of immunology and its applications in
diagnosis and research.
They understand about the normal and common pathogenic organisms associated with
human infectious diseases, pathogenesis and their diagnosis.
