The college is all set to open its doors to welcome fresh batch of Students seeking

admission in various undergraduate courses offered by this college. The college offers

admission in varied subjects Ranging from Arts to science and Commerce to computer

Education,with ample flexibility for students to make their subject choices as per their

will And intrest under choice based credit system (CBCS) which aims at exploring and exploting full potential and

capabilities of its budding students.The college Education plays a vital rolein shaping the career / future Of a person.

So to achive their set goals, the students opting for higher education ought to be well meaning,focussed,committed and

clear about their future plans .

The college has well qulified , competent and resourceful faculty , whom I believe the guarantee to the

quality humman resource being produced by this college. To ensure quality education , the college has a wide range of

services and facilities to offer to its students which include automated library, indoor /outdoor gaming facility, gym,

edu- sat (online class room), Smart class rooms, Browsing centre,conference hall ,Health care centre, well built

laboratories , etc . The college provides financial assistance to the deserving students in addition to co-ordinating with

other Govt. agencies in this regard .

The college,however, needs creation of more infrastructure to meet the growing demand in view of

increased enrollment . In this regard construction of multipurpose hall is going on and more projects like canteen

block , class room block,are in the pipe-line . I hope the students completing their education from this institution will

definitely prove of value and help to the society. I wish my dear students flourish in their chosen endeavors throughout

their life and bring laurels to their alma mater through their hardwork and commitment in their fields.

I also expect my students to join hands with other stake holders to take this institution to new heights and

realise the dream of making it a distinguished one.

Principal’s Message

It is with great pleasure to welcome you to Govt. Degree College Ganderbal and introduce you to this

College through our college prospectus. Our college is one of the Model Colleges of the valley declared

by the govt. under RUSA which has progressed within short period of time and reached to academic

excellence. We feel proud to provide quality education with skills, confidence and a positive approach

for all round development of Students in holistic way. Our objective is to deliver innovation in teaching,

learning and assessment practices to promote student learning and success. I am Proud to say that our

students are doing excellent in academics, sports, cultural, and extension activities with high values and

ethics. Steps are taken in this direction by each and every teaching and non-teaching staff of this college.

The college provides a platform for the students to explore their environment to learn, enhance their

talents and inculcate disciplinary values to transform their life up to the expectations of their parents.

Under the dynamic leadership of our esteemed Principal, I am looking forward for bright future of

students and wish all students to be productive citizens of the society. I also wish to thank the teaching

and non-teaching staff associated with the admission process of this college and well-wishers for their

The College is situated on the western bank of Sindh River in the most famous Chinar Garden, adjacent tothe Shrine of famous Sufi Saint Qamar Shah Sahib (R.A).The College formally started functioning in the year2002, in a building Government Physical College, Ganderbal, but has now been shifted to the new threestoried building which was inaugurated on 5th December 2009 by Chief Minister Jenab Omar Abdullah Sahib.Ganderbal College caters to the educational requirements of the students coming from far –off-areas viz.,Sonamarg, Kangan, Ajas, Lar and so on. The College offers undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerceand BCA Streams. The College publishes an annual Magazine “SHEHJAR” which caters to the creative need ofthe students and faculty. This Institution has been a hub of curricular and co-curricular activities and offers avariety of supporting services, viz., Library, Sports Opportunities, Internet Facility, browsing centre, StudentWelfare Schemes, besides NSS, NCC/PRC. This year college will raise NCC (Navy) unit which has been longlasting demand of our students. The College aspires to take education to the door steps of those studentswho are otherwise deprived of the facility. In this direction the College has established study centre ofIGNOU which offers more than 10PG and Diploma Courses. Also, College has a study centre of DistanceEducation Kashmir University for the benefit of the College Students in general and those of catchment areasin particular. The University of Kashmir has also established an IT centre for the students so that they remaininformed about the activities and events vis-à-vis Kashmir University

AdmissionAt present admission process in the college is made off-line and efforts are on to switch it into online mode w.e.f

Academic session 2019-20. The admission to the students is offered on the following grounds::The Admission to various undergraduate courses is offered at odd semesters:

•Admission to undergraduate courses in the college is made in accordance with the Statutes of the University of Kashmir and the guidelines set by the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of J&K.•For admission in B.A / B.Sc / BCA/B.com 1st & 2nd semisters, the candidates must have passed Higher Secondary Part 2 (10+2) and have secured not less than 45% marks in case of open merit and 40% marks in case of reserved category (under SROs issued by the state Govt. from time to time )in aggregate shall be eligible.•The admission shall be in accordance with the subject combination offered by the College as per the guidelines of the University of Kashmir. (Please see subject combinations)•The admission shall be granted to those students who fall within the catchment area of the college.•The admission shall be purely provisional and the College reserves the right to cancel the admission of any candidate at any stage if it is found that the student has consealed or furnished incorrect information or does not abide by the rules and reguations of the College..Selection of candidates for BCA& IT course shall be made purely on the basis of merit recurred in Higher Secondary Part II (10+2)

Co-Curricular & Extra-Co-Curricular Activities:

The students though busy with a well engaging and diverse curriculum, also actively take part inintra-college and inter-college co-curriculum & extra-co-curriculam activities during their stayin college. The range of co-curricular learning includes debating, music, cultural programmes,NSS, NCC and sports.

A-Physical Education and Sports

The Department of physical education and sports is housed inU-shaped building with adequate sports equipments. Thedepartment remains busy throughout the year to conductvarious indoor/outdoor. sports activities etc. The college laysequal emphasis on the health of its students and hasestablished a well equipped 8 –sitation gym centre formaintanig physical fitness of the students.

B-NSS (National Service Scheme)

NSS is an extension dimension to the HigherEducation System to orient the student youth tocommunity services while they are studying ineducational institutions. It is being implemented bythe ministry of youth affairs and sports, govt. of Indiawith the motto “not me but you”.

The National cadet corps is open to college studentson voluntary basis. NCC is a Tri-services organizationengaged in grooming the youth of the country intodisciplined citizens.
