Disruption for about 1-2 months due to irregular supply of food
grains.
Inadequate PDS rate: precious time of teachers wasted in getting

Field Visit to Nagaon & Morigaon Districts of Assam
• Disruption of Mid Day Meal of upto 71 days in a number of schools due to non-release of cooking cost as well as non availability of foodgrains.
• Monitoring mechanism very weak; no report to the State Government for disruption. Poor maintenance of records at school level.
• The food provided at primary norms at Nagaon, the claim made for upper primary norms in the last two years.
• Delay of 4 to 6 months in payment of honorarium to the cook-cum-helpers.
• School health programme non-functional.
Best Practices Best Practices Mothers are engaged as Bhojan Mata and Sahayika in primary
schools – Uttarakhand.
School children’s mothers association called Saraswati Vahini are involved actively in cooking and effective delivery of MDM - Jharkhand.
Kitchen Garden in the school premises – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab, West Bengal and NER States.
Construction of dining halls in schools – Tripura.
Public participation through ‘Tithi Bhojan’ – Gujarat.
Green Channel Scheme for release of funds – Andhra Pradesh.
All schools have gas based cooking –Karnataka.
