BRIEF NOTE ON JARAKA IRRIGATION DIVISION

Jaraka Irrigation Division was created in the year 1992. There are three Sub-divisions under this

Division namely:-

(1) Jaraka Irrigation Sub-Division, Jaraka.

(2) Bari Irrigation Sub-Division, Bari.

(3) Chandikhole Irrigation Sub-Division, Chandikhole.

Jurisdiction:- This Division looks after the River Embankments of Brahmani left & right of

Kharasuan, Kelua left & right, Birupa left, Tantighai right, Dudhei left & right. The length of Capital

Embankment, OAE & T.R.E under this Division are 53.20 Km., 121.281 Km. and 170.605 Km.

respectively. Beside this Division also looks after the canal system of High Level Canal Range-I from

RD.10.49 Km. to 53.09 Km. with Distributary and Minors. The total C.C. is 9074 Ha. 22 Nos. of

Panachayat have already been formed alongwith Two(2) Distributary Committee. Water Taxes are being

collected by this Division from Industries / Mines of Jajpur District.

During last year flood season, the flood water reached the Level of 62.60 Feet at

Jenapur in the river Brahmani on 5.8.16 against the danger level of 67.00 feet. The flood water received

in the river Baitarani, Kharasrota, Brahmani, Tantighai, Dudhei & Kelua caused damaged to the river

embankments. At some other places damages were made to the embankments which have been restored

and both the breaches have been closed.

Embankment:- The flood protection embankment as per list enclosed are protecting the villages

in Brahmani Delta from flood havoc in Sukinda, Danagadi, Korei, Rasulpur, Jajpur, Dharmasala,

Barachana & Bari Block.

Irrigation:- The Canal System of High Level Canal Range-I and System from RD.10.41 Km.

to tail is catering irrigation to C.C.A. of 9074 Ha.in Cuttack and Jajpur District. The canal system was

constructed more than 125 years. The main canal was silted-up. The tail ayacut of Distributaries and

Minors are deprived of getting required water being defunct. The Renovation, Extention, Modernization

of Canal System is being taken-up in Six(6) Nos. of packages and the work are under progress. After

renovation it is proposed to catter irrigation to design ayacut. The District / Block / Tahasil wise ayacut

area are furnished in separate sheet.
