Government Policy in the World of Business CAVUTO Production Team Jessica Cruzan, Centre College, Class of 2015 ABSTRACT This summer I worked as an employee of the Fox Business Network, and I was assigned to the production team of the primetime show CAVUTO. I was able to research important milestones in the business world (such as Dow Jones market value peaks). In addition I was tasked with researching to developing stories focused on how government policies impact businesses and therefore the consumer. I assisted in creating all of the elements for CAVUTO. We needed to make engaging and informative fullscreens, video clips, and charts so that the viewer was not constantly staring at anchors and contributors on a screen. We were a primetime, daily show so I learned the approach to “mapping” shows as well as how the team works in the control room in order to tape the desired segments. I was introduced to the world of networking in news is used to bring in contributors for shows. Along the way I met and heard from many senior employees within Fox News about their path to their current position. Prior to joining FNC for its launch in August of 1996, Cavuto anchored and hosted more than three hours of live daily programming for CNBC, including the network’s highest-rated show, Market Wrap. He also served as a contributor to NBC’s Today show and NBC News at Sunrise. Previously, Cavuto was the New York Bureau Chief for PBS Television’s Nightly Business Report and a Washington Bureau Chief for Investment Age Magazine. Cavuto has covered some of the most important business and political stories of our time, including the 9-11 attacks, the 2008 financial meltdown, the 1987 stock market crash, and both Persian Gulf Wars. He has reported firsthand on the economic policies of American presidents since Jimmy Carter, and covered major corporate scandals from Enron to Tyco. In fact, Cavuto’s live prison interview with former Tyco Chief Executive Dennis Kozlowski was a business television first. A former White House intern during the Carter administration, Cavuto graduated from Saint Bonaventure University and received his master’s degree from The American University. He and his wife Mary have three children: Tara, Jeremy and Bradley. PERUSING THE CITY Finally, no visit to the largest city in the United States would be complete without a few adventures. Here are my highlights.
