Preface

Narsinghgarh is located on Malwa Plateau at 23.7°N77.1°E It has an average elevation of483 metres (15840 feet). The town is 72 km from the RajaBhoj Airportand is reached by a good road. Town issurrounded by Satpura Range and has three lakes. It issituated between Kota & Bhopal on the Jaipur-JabalpurNational Highway No.12 and is 82 km. from Bhopal, 265Kilometers from Kota and 200 Kilometers from Indore. Themain railway stations are Bhopal Junction on the main Delhi-Chennai line and Biaora nearly 33 km on the Maksi-Gwaliorbranch line. Close to Narsinghgarh is a state wild lifesanctuary with a big lake and a good Rest house.

The town is over 300 years old having been founded in 1681 by Dewan Parasram. After partitionRawat Paras Ramji named his state after Bhagwan Shri Narsingh (incarnation of God Vishnu),who was his deity and aradhya Dev. Thereafter, he founded the town of Narsinghgarh andtransferred his capital there and constructed the temple of his aradhya Dev Shri NarsinghBhagwan. He built a tank known as Paras Ram Sagar The town's lake still bears the name of thefounder. The Royal family was well connected directly and indirectly in relationship with all theimportantRajput Royal families of India. The State of Narsinghgarh was carved out of the State ofRajgarh by Paras Ramji, the younger brother of the then Ruler of Rajgarh, Rawat Mohan Singhjiin 1681 A.D.

Government Degree College Narsinghgarh is at the end of the City. The College isaffiliated to Barkatullah University, Bhopal MP. The mission of the college is to provide qualityeducation and high moral standards. The institution offers three under graduate programmes–Arts, Science and Commerce and three post graduate programmes in Eight subjects (Hindi,Economics, Political Science, History, Chemistry, Mathemetics, Botany, and Commerce).Furthermore, some courses are self financing.

The college has a team of well qualified faculty members and supporting office staffunder the noble supervision of the principal Dr. Ku.Pramod Bhartiya. With their valuable co-operation the steering committee prepared the report with requisite information and thecommittee feels pleasure in submitting SSR to NAAC Bangalore. The committee is again obligedto the all members for their valuable co-operation with out which SSR could never have been inthe shape.

Looking forward for Peer Team visit and their valuable suggestions with co-operation tofulfill the aim, vision and mission of the institute. Therefore efforts have been made by all to getsuccess in educational map and also to achieve the goal with all required amenities.

(Summary)

Executive SummaryI. Curricular Aspects:

The institution has a curriculum designed by Barkatullah University, Bhopal inaccordance with the norms set by the Dept. of Higher Education, M.P. The institution takesevery easure for the effective implementation of the curriculum. Co-curricular activitiesare also conducted. Workshops, debates, seminars, job oriented projects and industrialvisits help to develop the unrevealed potential and skills of students. Students do take partin the extracurricular activities in Youth Festival, Annual Function, Sports etc. which aimsat the development of the character and values which help and build them to be responsiblecitizens of the nation. The Strength of student was 2033 in the year 2015-16.

II. Teaching, Learning and Evaluation:

From the year 2012 - 13, the process of admission has been online by M.P. HigherEducation and hence gives a transparent and fair method. Definite percentage of seats isreserved for various categories like SC/ST/OBC students. Due weight age in admission isgiven to outstanding achievers in sports and other curricular activities. Our college initiatesinnovative methods of teaching, learning and evaluation like group discussion, OHPcharts, learning through Smart Class etc. which make learning a process of construction ofknowledge. The teachers prepare teaching plan and maintain a work diary. The facultymembers are motivated constantly for taking part in refresher and orientation coursesoutside the college. Our library is partly computerized and the laboratories are wellequipped to improve the quality of teaching and learning. Evaluation system is performedthrough CCE, project internship and semester exams. The result of various faculties is verygood. Some students also got position in Barkatullah University Bhopal (M.P.)

III. Research Consultancy and Extension:

Faculty is also actively engaged in publishing research papers in regional, nationaland international journals. College renders peerless services to the society through NSS.NSS carries out various programs and are recognized for their outstanding achievement.To strengthen the support services with regard to placement of students, the career cell isstriving hard for guiding students through workshops and counseling. Many exams areconducted by vyapam, exam including the B.U. exam.

IV. Infrastructure and Learning Resources :The infrastructure of the college has been expanded to meet the requirement of

curriculum and student related services. The college has a well maintained campus incollege which includes IC Tenabled Smart classroom, One Virtual class and Six labs. Thelibrary of our college had inflibinet. Access to the library materials is open to all the usersincluding staff and students. There is a reading room attached with library where thestudents and teachers can sit and read.

V. Student Support and Progression:Our college provides quality education that imparts knowledge skills and values

created for becoming responsible citizens. Students are given necessary support, guidanceand counseling for their overall development and progress. Scholarships are given tostudents belonging to SC/ST/OBC and economically weaker section. Books are issuedduring the academic session from Book Bank Yojna. Slow learners are supported well toavoid dropouts through extra classes. Faculty members provide counseling to students forpreparation for competitive exams like bank, civil services, UGC NET, SLETexaminations, etc.

VI. Governance Leadership and Management:The efficient governance provided by the head of institution upholds an eminent

environment in college. The leadership leads to college with clear vision and mision of thecollege/institution. Out institution has strong urge for excellence and will continue topursue it. The statutory bodies like IQAC, finance committee, administration, examination,purchase, anti-ragging committees work directly under the supervision of the principal andthe coordination helps in creating a positive and wholesome environment which is the corevalue of the institution. Our staff members including guest faculties are character wisesound. These are no case of woman exploitation in our college.

VII. Innovation and Best Practice:Institution has made innovative and flawless efforts helpful in achieving academic

excellence, moral and ethical values such as social justice, eco consciousness, sense ofequality are inculcated in the minds of students through community oriented extensionservices carried out by the institution. To promote research, the college encourages facultymembers to take part in research, seminars and conferences. Institute has adapted to bestpractice such as Remedial Coaching and NSS. The Remedial Coaching helps in improvingthe academic skills of socially backward classes. NSS unit helps in empowerment of youththrough imparting holistic education to make them responsible citizen of the society.

NCC students of our college got best performance since 46 years. Many studentspassed the B and C certificate. One NSS student went to Maa Tujhe Salam. One NCCstudent want to 26th January parade Delhi in 2013-14. The NCC camp of our college isheld every year in Bhopal, Vidisha, Hohangabad, pachmadi in various battalions.

This year the target of the NCC students was to spread awareness and cleanliness.

The college follows strictly the curriculum laid bybarkattullah University syllabus is provided to allthe teachers. Teachers follow different teachinginnovative affective techniques apart fromtraditional methods. Monitoring is done by theprincipal.

The Faculty member attend meeting of board of studiesin university for curriculum planning and allowincorporate required changes. Some of the teachers are members inboard of studies of different subject and they providetheir valuable suggestion and problems before them.Various seminars and workshops are regularlyattended by the teachers. Thedepartment of Higher Education, MP Govt., instructed toobserve 2011-12 as quality assurance year by performingquality improvement programmes and 2012-13 as Qualityextension year by continuing the same programmes. With itsinstruction, quality improvement Cell also came intofunctioning.

Post-accreditation Initiatives

If the college has already undergone the accreditation process by NAAC, please highlight thesignificant quality sustenance and enhancement measures undertaken during the last four years.The narrative may not exceed ten pages. (Refer section IX of Guidelines for Assessment andAccreditation)Process of accreditation of Govt. Degree College Narsinghgarh by NAAC is under process. Sinceits accreditation, the institution has been marching forward towards excellence with limitedmanpower and resources. Keeping in view its vision, mission and objectives the first andforemost thing that the institution did after accreditation was setting up of the IQAR (InternalQuality Assurance Cell) in 2008. The institution has tried its best to work upon therecommendations of the peer team of NAAC and quality sustenance and enhancement measureshave been taken accordingly. Steps have been taken to bring quality in every sphere of theinstitution- academic, sports, co-curricular, extra-curricular activities along with infrastructuredevelopment and fulfilling its social responsibility. The following quality sustenance measureshave been taken in the last four years-1. We have started new self financing courses in. BCA, B.Sc (Computer Science), B.Com(Computer Application) 2. Admission process have been made more transparent andcomputerized.- Admission to all academic programmes of the institution are on-line and is quitetransparent and it is according to the directive of the Department of Higher education, Govt. ofM.P.Four national Seminars and two workshops were organized. Efforts were made to enhanceresearch activities in the institution.3. Activities of career Counselling Cell- the College provides career counseling and job-orintedprogrammes through Swami Vivekanand Career Counselling Cell. Making the career counselingcell more effective, many programmes were conducted in the last four years. Futher a Number ofSelf-employment training programmes were organized by Swami Vivekanand Career CounselingCell in the last four years. These are as follows:-

Camps held in villages by N.S.S. to teach the students community service includingcleanliness and hygiene, blood donation camp held on behalf of Red Cross, AIDS day observed,rally in the city to awaken the people about the disease; awareness created about the honour ofwomen in the society; Sadbhavna diwas (Good Will Day) celebrated to spread fellow feeling inthe community. Eighty per cent students of the college have been benefitted from theseprogrammes.

Similarly equipment and computer facility, ITCell equipped with computers with net and help desk has been constructed in the collegebuilding.

5. Examination reforms- Semester system introduced for all classes with a semester cell.Continuous Comprehensive Evaluations in its various modes and project work started.

6. Provision of scholarship- About 80% students belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and Differentlyabled category has been availing scholarship. Some meritorious students of general category arealso being provided scholarship under different schemes. The scholarship of 15 private college'sstudents for application are checked as nodal college of Narsinghgarh distt.
