DAYS of GRACE
UMW NEWS & VIEWS
Tickets are still on sale for the Mother-Daughter
Banquet held on May 7th at 6:00 PM. You can pur-
chase them before church in Hawkins Hall, at the
UMW meeting on May 3rd, or contact Karol Spencer
to make arrangements to get them. The price is
$8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children under 5
years old. This is going to be a wonderful evening,
one that you won’t want to miss. You do not have to
be a member of the UMW to attend the banquet. All
of the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, grand
and great granddaughters or women are invited to
attend. Our theme is “Mothers” and we are asking
each woman to bring a picture of their mother.
May 3rd is our next General Meeting at 10:00 AM in
Fellowship Hall. Our District President, Shirley
Randel, will be attending our meeting and sharing
all of the latest updates. Our guest speaker will be a
member of the Quakers group that meets in our
church on Sundays for their worship services. She
will be giving us the history of their religion.
We hope to see all of the ladies at Grace at the Ban-
quet and the General Meeting. It is a wonderful
time for friendship and fellowship. See you there.

Dear Grace family,
A blessed Easter prayer for
you all!
My mother is well, physically. We pray together and she enjoys
listening to me play and once in a while will still sing, especially if
I give her her own hymnal.
We always enjoy the news from Grace—every letter and newslet-
ter is like a letter from home. My mom and I read them eagerly.
In Christ,
~Joy for Martha Walter

For we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over
him. . . . So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." —Romans 6: 9, 11
(NRSV)
Dear Friends in Christ,
On Sunday, all over the world, Christians greeted each other with the joyful news that Christ is risen. What a wonderful Easter we
had! Although the weather was dull outside, inside, all of the planning and practice came together in a service that was at once joy-
ous and meaningful, relaxed and uplifting, well-thought-out and spontaneous, fun and holy. It was wonderful to see the church full
of joyful people. Children and adults decorated the cross with flowers, and lilies graced the communion railing. The baptism of
Nyla and Chris was an extra joy on a special day.
Easter Sunday is the beginning of the Great Fifty Days, the season that stretches from Easter morning to Day of Pentecost. The
Great Fifty Days is an ancient observance, probably first celebrated in the first century church. The contrast between the Lenten
season—sober, reflective, watchful—and the Easter-Pentecost season—exuberant, joyful, full of light—is dramatic.
During the entire season between Easter and Pentecost, the Christ candle, lighted at the climax of the Maundy Thursday Tenebrae
service, and symbolizing the morning star that never sets, is visible and lighted for every gathering for worship. As we move to-
ward Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit in power and joy, we celebrate the continuing blessings of our redemption from sin
and death. Just as God brings new life and beauty to the world around us, God is also at work within us to bring newness of life.
As Paul points out in his Epistle to the Romans, we Christians are not just dead to sin, we are alive to Christ. Just as conversion is
not the end of the Christian life, but the beginning, Easter is not the end of a season, but the beginning. Let's make this Great Fifty
Days a season of joy and new life for Grace United Methodist Church.
Grace and peace,
Congratulations to Kimberly
and Anthony Townsend as
they welcome their daughter,
Viola Ann, born Thursday,
April 21. She weighed 7 lbs, 13
oz, and was 19 1/2 inches long. Viola is the
granddaughter of Wendell and Chris Northrip.
Betty Prather is the proud great-grandmother of
Carson Andrew born April 19. He weighed 8
lbs. Son of Ryan and Melissa Prather, he joins
big sister, Isabella. His grandparents are Kevin
and Melissa Prather. Congratulations to the
Prather Family!
I just KNEW that I would do it!
In the aftermath of the big Easter Party, I uninten-
tionally neglected to thank some of the wonderful
people who helped! My apologies and thanks to:
Carolyn Glover, Mike & Cathy Carr, Betty Fraley,
June Rogers, Georgian Wellonen and Pastor Diana.
Please, if I missed anyone else, let me know!
