Partner assignmentsI have put your in pairs based on the abilities that you have

demonstrated in English this year. I believe each person has abilities that they can contribute to the project, and it is important that you take your partnership seriously, so as not to disappoint the other person. Part of this project is to learn how to work independently, without constant teacher direction, so it’s important that you ask your partner for help.

Some of the marks for this project will be given to the “partners”, while some of the marks will be based on the individual.

One of the expectations of Grade 10 ELA is that you can work effectively in a partner situation; learning to communicate, work together, and give credit to other viewpoints are all important parts of this project. Each person is expected to contribute to the project and will need to be in constant dialogue with their partner, especially in the event that you are absent for a class. All work is to be kept in your ELA portfolio so that the other person has access to it if you are away. I can access your computer files from your H drive if needed.

In your group…Choose a question to answer – fill out the

sheet in your groupFill in the KWL about your question

With that topic in mind….Take on the role stated on the card you

select. Ask questions about your topic in your assigned role.

Partner strategies Fill in the handout – they will be posted in the classroom.

Remember, there are two people who are working towards one end product. Use the following strategies:

Split up the jobs ex. each person research 1 source and fill out your own notes sheet. When compiling your information into your video, 1 person can save

the images, find the music and type the information, while the other person puts the save info into MovieMaker. (I can transfer files from one person’s name to another at any time – COME ASK ME!)

USE YOUR TIME WISELY! You have a lot to do in a short amount of time.

Stay positive, and think about what you need to do to accomplish your end goal, of answering your question. This is your chance to be independent and show me (and your partner) what you’re capable of!

Ensure that you COMMUNICATE. You need to know how each person is helping to complete the required jobs, so that you don’t do something twice…or not at all!

3 level questioning guide (for your research)You need three sources of information to ensure that

you have adequately answered your question.

For each source, you will fill out a graphic organizer that asks you to dig deeper and move beyond the surface level. You will:

Need to understand the facts Make inferences among the facts Consider how to apply what has been learned.

Fill out the required information and this will be used in your final project.

Inquiry project rubric/10 marksIn your table groups, make a checklist of things

that an amazing inquiry project would have. Example: “eye catching visuals”.

You will be submitting your checklist and this will help to create the rubric that you’re marked with for your inquiry project.

Inquiry project checklist (things to do to get 100%):

Would be good to use pictures of your own friends etc.

Page 29: Grade 10 ELA Inquiry Project. Goals of the inquiry project Select a research questions based on interest Work as part of a pair Improve your problem solving

Ask yourself these questions:What do you need to find out? What information do you have? What information do you still need? How

can you get it?

Step 3: Create – organize your information and create your presentation

Page 31: Grade 10 ELA Inquiry Project. Goals of the inquiry project Select a research questions based on interest Work as part of a pair Improve your problem solving

Organize Information (3.3.1)

Choose a graphic organizer from the choicesWhich one is the best way to organize your

information?think about your writing variables

Fill out the graphic organizer with your research

Now it’s time to use your plan to create your final presentation (refer to your graphic organizer as you’re putting your information into MovieMaker or Photostory)
