Seven Skies International School Lesson Plan Pro Forma Teacher: Ms Hazira Grade: 7 Date: 23 May 2016 Subject: Chemistry Lesson No.: Revision Term: 3/2015-2016 Week of Term: 9 Duration of Lesson: 80 minutes Main Activities (What Activities will the learners do that gets the learners to think and get involved?) Silent discussion: In a group, students will write down everything they know about atoms and subatomic particles eg: draw structure of atom, include electrons in the shell, include protons and neutrons in the nucleus, define proton number/ nucleon number/ isotopes, gold foil experiment. Select a delegator, the delegator moves to another group to listen to the explanation of the group. The delegator then goes back to the original group and conveys the message. Brainstorm carousel: In a group, students will move from one table to another. Discuss within the group and list down as many things as they know about the topic or the diagram given. Once time is up, they will have to move to another table and add on details. Chemical reactions: Involve a change in energy. Discuss the difference Starter Activity (what activity will the learners be doing that engages all and APK?) Back to the board – atoms, neutrons, nucleon number, protons, Title (display on the board and copied into notebooks) Material properties & Energy changes Learning Objectives (to be displayed on the board and copied into notebooks and graded): All: Name 3 subatomic particles/ Draw structures of atoms/ Define isotopes Most: Describe the properties of subatomic particles/ Describe gold foil experiment/ Describe advantages or disadvantages of vehicle

Main Activities (What Activities will the learners do that gets the learners to think and get involved?)

Silent discussion: In a group, students will write down everything they know about atoms and subatomic particles eg: draw structure of atom, include electrons in the shell, include protons and neutrons in the nucleus, define proton number/ nucleon number/ isotopes, gold foil experiment.

Discuss the difference between exothermic and endothermic reactions or changes. Get students to list down some everyday examples. How do we know if a reaction exothermic or endothermic? Look at the temperature change exothermic (-), endothermic (+)

Starter Activity (what activity will the learners be doing that engages all and APK?)

Back to the board – atoms, neutrons, nucleon number, protons, electrons, isotopes, periodic table, halogen, reactive, exothermic, endothermic, combustion, fuel

Title (display on the board and copied into notebooks)Material properties & Energy changes

Learning Objectives (to be displayed on the board and copied into notebooks and graded):

All: Name 3 subatomic particles/ Draw structures of atoms/ Define isotopesMost: Describe the properties of subatomic particles/ Describe gold foil experiment/ Describe advantages or disadvantages of vehicle fuels/ Describe how to measure heat when a fuel or a food is burntSome: Explain structure of an atom/ Describe trends in groups/ Explain the

Plenary Activity (What activities will the learners do that consolidates their learning?)

Bring students together and discuss the two sessions to ensure students understood the topic and able to use scientific keywords to describe and explain
