DESCRIPTION

Making the Grades comment We think the article tells us that grades are still very important, because some of the subjects are related to our performance in the future. If we don’t do well on some of the important courses, it may lead to big problems in the future. We may not cure our patients or even make them die. In conclusion, we still have to pay attention on our study and grades.

Why Grades Risecomment

• We think the article tells us not to be too happy when we get a good grades, because the beautiful number on the paper may not totally correspond to your true ability. Maybe every students in the class get the similar grades due to grades inflation. In sum, caring too much about those numbers is also not very good.

One professor and five students’ opinions about grading in university

• Professor Lee: I think the grade is not equal to his ability. Poor grade doesn’t mean bad competitive strength.

• NEMESIS: I think that the grades represents the quality of the student. If the student performed a good grade, that which means the student had learned all technique he needed.

• YAO: sometimes teacher who give grades subjectively makes grade judgment unfair. I think, university should build up fair grade judgment as soon as possible.

• Brother Jen: I think grades are not completely related to one’s ability, because many abilities can’t be measured through numbers.

• DLP: we should put more emphasis on what they learned instead of good grads.

• San: I think the grading system in Taiwanese University is a little bit different from that of Canadian University. Personally I like the Canadian system better. First of all, there is no 'attendance grade'. Students are not forced to attend classes but they have to bear the consequences of missed lectures. Those who attend, usually do better in exams and in reports and vice versa.

The trend and situation of society toward grade

1.The education in Taiwan emphasize grade a lot. Therefore, comparing with other things, getting good grade always becomes the first priority.

2.Grade still plays an important role to indicate one’s ability. Whether a person is competent or not usually be judged by his grade in school.

3. Grades seems to be the most efficient way to test one’s ability.

4.Although grades are not completely related to one’s ability, many students feel themselves inferior because they can't get good grade.

Conclusion• Paying proper attention on our

grades is still very important. After all, they are still a good way to estimate our ability. That doesn’t mean grades are everything because we still have to obtain a lot of important abilities which can’t be measured through grades.
