Australia Awards Fellowships Graduate Certificate in Counselling (and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment) Australia Awards is seeking suitable applicants who currently provide counselling service to apply for the Graduate Certificate in Counselling fellowships course. The Graduate Certificate will be delivered alongside a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment course so that graduates may share their newly acquired knowledge and skills with others in their organisation. The course is targeting employees from the Departments of Health, Community Development and Religion, Education, and Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, Provincial Administrations (e.g. Child Protection Officers), Hospitals, Family Support Centres and NGOs and Church-based organisations involved in providing counselling. Applications are also sought from teaching staff from the university sector so that the graduates may contribute to the development and delivery of future counselling programs and curricula. Applicants from the public sector must complete the Australia Awards – PNG Fellowships application form for Government of Papua New Guinea and have the endorsement of the head of their department, agency or administration. Please note, Australia Awards will facilitate the endorsement from the Department of Personnel Management. Learning Objectives Upon completion, graduates will be able to: Graduate Certificate in Counselling - Apply knowledge of different counselling theories and communication skills to a range of counselling issues and clients. Demonstrate an understanding of case management processes and skills in working with children, youth and families. Explain and demonstrate the importance of maintaining an effective working alliance in the counselling process. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment -

• Plan, design, organise and deliver group-based learning.• Use training packages and accredited courses to meet client needs.• Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills.• Plan, design and develop assessment activities, tools and processes to assess

competence.

To be successful for this Fellowship, you must:

• Have a minimum academic English proficiency level equivalent of IELTS 6.5/TOEFL 575 (shortlisted applicants will be required to undertake a test facilitated by Australia Awards).

• Applicants must be directly involved in Counselling/and or teaching counselling or a related subject (such as psychology or social work).

• Be currently working with one of the organisations listed above and have your application supported by your Manager.

• Have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and/or a minimum of five years’ work experience in a counselling, case management or social work-related area.

• Have a commitment to prepare and implement a project as part of the course requirement; engage actively and foster networks with multiple stakeholders, including in Australia and to disseminate learning from the course with students, colleagues and peers.

Course Delivery

Two or three ‘blocks of study’ each up to six weeks in Australia, with pre- and post-course one-week workshops in PNG (dates, location and total length of study to be confirmed).

This is a fully funded scholarship. All course fees, travel, accommodation and per diems will be provided by Australia Awards – PNG.
