Communications and Planning Manager (July 2016 – Current) As the Communications and Planning Manager my main goal is marketing Midtown and
Main Street area through various forms of social media, email communication, and photography. I am also responsible for acquiring and handling donations, attending area plan implementation meetings, composing year end reviews and other publications, acquiring funding and grants for the organization, and community engagement events and result analysis.
KC Healthy Kids – Kansas City, KS – Policy Intern (July 2016 – August 2016) I served as a policy intern for a 6-‐week period project which partnered with the Public
Health Law Center to create a document about integrating food policy into comprehensive plans. The document was specifically for public health officials and advocates, involving education on comprehensive planning and the planning process, as well as areas of comp plans that can incorporate food policy. Rural considerations were researched and included.
Olathe City Planning Division – Olathe, KS – Planning Intern (October 2015 – June 2016)
As an intern for a city planning department, my responsibilities included providing administrative assistance, processing new applications prior to review, attending development review committee meetings, following applications through the development process in order to assure timely and adequate review, reviewing minor plat applications and writing staff reports, creating and teaching a third grade planning curriculum, analyzing street tree plans, and setting up council chambers for planning commission meetings.
Jayhawk Consulting – Lawrence, KS – Student Consultant (August 2015 – December 2015)
As a Jayhawk Consultant, I worked on a project based in the Argentine neighborhood of Kansas City, KS. My experience in urban planning and development helped bring a necessary opinion to issues with economic development and vitality in the area. Our final result was an assessment of the economic viability of the neighborhood and a business attraction recommendation for the area, which included a marketing pitch for our client’s use.
GAP – Lawrence, KS – Sales Associate (October 2014-‐October 2015) I was hired as holiday sales associate and asked to stay on as a permanent associate. My
jobs included greeting customers, helping to meet customers’ needs by suggesting and locating merchandise, staying up to date on all products in order to properly promote the brand, and knowing computer software used to complete purchases in a timely manner.
Roosevelt Institute & Chicago Department of Public Health – Summer Fellow & DPH Intern – Chicago, IL (June 2014 – August 2014) I was chosen for a highly selective fellowship that partnered me with the Chicago Department of Public Health, while also requiring me to work on a team-‐based challenge involving food waste management within the city. I was required to have knowledge of public health and waste removal ordinances, and be able to create more easily understandable documents for residents’ use. Other jobs included analyzing data from GIS attribute tables, taking minutes at board meetings, proofreading grant proposals, researching and debriefing my supervisor, and general administrative work.
EXPERIENCE Center for Community Outreach – Core Member – Lawrence, KS (Spring 2013 – January 2015) Co-‐Coordinator of EARTH; Environmental Action to Revitalize the Heartland. We reconstructed and managed a campus garden, built an irrigation system, recruited volunteers to help prepare soil for planting, and connected with local food kitchens for donation purposes. General CCO Co-‐Coordinator jobs included attending seminars on managing organizations, scheduling meetings, and community and student engagement.
Environs Club – Member (Spring 2013 – Fall 2014) Local Foods committee member: Focused on eating locally and educating KU students about the importance of organic, locally grown produce. I combined committee efforts with Be Love Too Farm in Edgerton, KS for educational and philanthropic purposes. Eco-‐Justice committee member: Focused on local, state, and nation-‐wide social and environmental justice issues. Attended PowerShift Conference in Pittsburgh, PA with committee to learn more about climate, energy, and eco-‐justice issues (October 2013).
Sustainability Leadership Board (Fall 2013 – Fall 2015) Combined leadership efforts of all sustainably oriented organizations on campus in order to effectively achieve sustainability goals and educate students. Responsibilities included holding presentations for students, weekly meetings for board members to organize and plan, and encouraging attendance of other organizations’ events for support.
Alternative Breaks, Spring Break Volunteer (Spring 2014) I worked as a volunteer with the National Parks Service in Zion National Park, Utah during my 2014 spring break. Responsibilities included trail cleanup and erosion management, camp ground clean up, general maintenance of bike fleet, and help with trail maintenance at the neighboring Kolob Canyons. Alternative Breaks required weekly meetings in order to prepare volunteers and team building exercises to bring group members closer together.
