  • Undergraduate – Level Requirements

    • To be awarded an Undergraduate degree from the University of Mount Olive, a student must:

    • Be in good standing at the University

    • Must complete at least 64 semester hours for the Associate degree and a 126 semester hours for the Baccalaureate degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on all studies at the University with no grade lower than C on required major courses.

    • Complete minimum residence-hour requirements: 18 semester hours in residence for an Associate degree - 32 semester hours in residence, of which at least 18 semester hours must be in the major for the Baccalaureate degree

    • Fulfill all College and Departmental assessment requirements

  • Graduate-Level Requirements

    • To be awarded a Graduate degree from the University of Mount Olive, a student must:

    • Be in good standing at the University

    • Complete all courses, including all academic requirements prior to graduation

    • Must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0 on all studies at the University of Mount Olive with no grade below C

    • Complete minimum residence of 24 semester hours

    • Fulfill all financial obligations to the University

    • Note: Graduation requirements may vary for each specific graduate program. Requirements are currently housed within each Academic School, i.e., School of Agriculture & Biological Sciences, School of Arts & Sciences, and Tillman School of Business.

  • How do I know if I am on track for Graduation?• You must reach out to your respective contact person

    to check your progress.

    – Students from the Traditional Program will contact the Office of the Registrar.

    – Students from the Adult & Graduate Program will contact their One-Stop Advisor.

  • Applying for Graduation

    • File an application for graduation by March 1st for the May Commencement, July 1st for the August Commencement, and October 1st for the December Commencement, and pay to the Business Office a nonrefundable graduation fee.

  • Graduation Tickets

    Tickets for graduation are limited to 6 per graduate (4 for the Commencement in Kornegay Arena and 2 for the LIVE Feed in the Southern Bank Auditorium (LIVE feed tickets must be requested).

    – Adult & Graduate Program Candidates will have tickets mailed to the address specified on the Application for Graduation. (Note: candidates will have to pick-up tickets at the UMO Book Store Will-Call if requests have not been received within 2 weeks of graduation).

    – Traditional Program Candidates will have tickets mailed to the address specified on the application for Graduation. (Note: you may request to pick them up at the UMO Book Store Will-Call. Tickets will be available for pick-up beginning August 14th).

    Please keep in mind that tickets for the August 29, 2020 Commencement may be less than what is normally provided due to State and CDC recommendations.

  • Cap & Gowns/ Announcements

    • Graduation Cap & Gown Attire and Announcements: to order, please click on the following ICON:

    • (Candidates must contact Book Store for orders placed after published cut-off date. Late orders must be picked up at the Book Store Will-Call).

    • Bookstore hours of operation: SUMMER 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. SPRING & FALL - 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM on Friday. Closed on Saturday and Sunday. Open 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM on the day of graduation. Contact the UMO Bookstore at (919) 658-7763 if you need any additional information.

  • Academic Distinction

    • Baccalaureate candidates must have earned 32 graded semester hours in residence at the University of Mount Olive and must have met one of the following GPA’s to graduate with distinction:

    – Summa Cum Laude: (3.90 – 4.00) with no grade lower than a C

    will receive a Gold Cord and a Summa notation on diploma

    – Magna Cum Laude: (3.80 – 3.89) with no grade lower than a C

    will receive a Silver Cord and a Magna notation on diploma

    – Cum Laude: (3.70 – 3.79) with no grade lower than a C

    will receive a Bronze Cord and a Cum notation on diploma

    • Associate degree candidates must have earned 30 graded semester hours in residence at the University of Mount Olive and have met one of the following GPAs to graduate with honors:

    • - High Honors: (3.90 or above) – with no grade lower than a C• - Honors: (3.70 to 3.89) – with no grade lower than a C

  • LATIN HONOR CORDS

    • Latin Honor cords will be available on the day of graduation and will be given out by the Registrar’s Office.

    • May 2, 2020 Graduates who achieved Latin Honors - Please bring your honor cord if you made reservations to participate in the August 29, 2020 Commencement Ceremony.

    • Candidates who meet the Latin Honor requirements may pick-up their cord on the day of graduation at the Pope Wellness Center during line-up between the hours of 9:15 – 10:15 am (There is no charge for the Latin Honor cords).

    • Note: Departmental Honor cords must be picked up through the School of Agriculture & Biological Sciences, School of Arts & Science or Tillman School of Business prior to graduation. The Registrar’s Office is not responsible for the distribution of any departmental honor cords.

  • Graduate Hooding Ceremony• The Graduate Hooding Ceremony

    – MBA & MEd will be held at the Southern Bank Auditorium in the W. Burkette and Rose M. Raper Hall at 8:30 a.m. on the day of graduation.

    – MSN will be held in Rodgers Chapel at 8:30 a.m. on the same day of Graduation.

    • Graduates need to arrive by 8:00 a.m. Please bring your cap, gown & Stole (Stoles apply to the MSN graduates).

    – August 29, 2020 Graduation Candidates: Hoods will be presented at the graduate hooding ceremony. (hoods can be obtained during graduation line-up for those graduates who could not attend the hooding ceremony).

    – May 2, 2020 Graduates: Please bring your hood if you made reservations to participate in the Hooding and Commencement Ceremony.

    • The Nursing Pinning Ceremony will be held in Rodgers Chapel at 8:30 a.m. on the day of graduation. Graduates need to arrive by 8:15 a.m. Please bring your cap & gown.

    • Commencement will be at Kornegay Arena at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Note: family and guests must be seated by 10:15 a.m. Doors will open at 9:00 a.m. for early seating.

  • Graduation Dress Code

    • Graduates are required to wear academic attire and will enter in a formal processional for the Baccalaureate Service and Commencement.

  • Graduation Line-up

    • The graduation line-up will take place at Pope Wellness Center at 9:15 a.m. Please check with one of the Registrar’s Staff to receive your line-up card. The academic procession will begin at 10:20 a.m.

  • Obtaining Your DiplomaThe Office of the Registrar will mail your diploma to the address noted on your application for graduation form once you have completed all requirements by the deadlines posted for graduation.

    • A professional photography service will take individual photographs of each graduate as they receive their diploma. They will mail a color proof to each graduate with a form for ordering finished pictures.

    • Due to safety reasons, there will be no picture taking allowed in the center aisle.
