PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

The Last Report for 2019

Firstly let me wish everyone one a safe and happy

break and a great time spent with friends and family.

We wish those students and families who are leaving

DDrYPS all the very best for their future endeavours.

For those in our community who will be back in 2020

we look forward to taking the next step in the journey.

It would be absolutely remiss to not thank the people

that makes up our community.

Firstly to our School Councillors who have worked so

well together on some at times challenging issues. The

great thing has been that we have managed to have

good discussions, respectfully conducted, that have

brought about good outcomes. Some of the really good

actions have been

• setting up a very strong and robust sub-

committee structure so that we can maximise

input

• working through over twenty policies in

preparation for our year of review

• getting set up for or completing a whole raft of

facilities projects across the three schools

including installation of air conditioning in the

P-2 classes, refurbishment of the Art Room at

Yandoit and roof repairs and carpentry at

Drummond

• working really hard and succeeding to raise

funds to maintain our magnificent kitchen

garden

A very special thank you to Michael and Annette who

served as School Council Presidents for the first

semester prior to the amalgamation in July. Also a

shout out to Russell who was Daylesford PS President

in Semester 1 and President of the amalgamated

council in Semester 2.

To our parent community, thank you for supporting

our students and teachers so admirably. Your help

allows us to do things we couldn’t otherwise do and

provides our kids with a great range of opportunities.

I’d also like to thank you for feedback and

conversations throughout the year that have helped

give me a better understanding of our communities.

To our teachers, office and ES staff who have worked

really hard in 2019 I would also dip my lid. Our aim has

been to set up really strong structures for teaching and

learning and wellbeing. I think we have done this and

having read all of the student’s reports, I can say that it

has had considerable effect. Next year we will be very

well placed to expand the whole notion of Student

Agency which will be very exciting.

Finally and most importantly thank you to the students

at our schools. They have never failed to impress and

amaze with their effort, enthusiasm and verve.

Well played to all and happy New Year!!!!!!

GENIUS HOUR Students in Year 5 & 6 are investigating something they are passionate about as part of our Genius Hour Program. These long-term projects are student driven. Students are researching, creating and then presenting their new knowledge.

Hi my name is Miki and for my genius hour project I made a photography website. I love to take photos of nature and my friends. Some things that I found difficult were moving pages around, fixing bugs and importing photos. To make my website I used a template from wix.com. It gave me all of the tools that I needed to start my website. If you want to visit my website the address is: https://mikipics.wixsite.com/mysite My name is Leo, and my genius hour is about trivia. I am doing a PowerPoint with hyperlinks, so when it’s all put together, it will be an in-depth quiz with various topics, mainly about famous books and movies. There will be five questions for each topic, each varying in difficulty. So far I’ve set up the template, and done one of the quizzes. One of the hardest things in my genius hour was probably sticking to the idea. I knew that if I finished this it would pay off, but I got a bit bored doing the same thing over and over again. But I got past that and I’ve kept on going. Overall, I have had a lot of fun doing this project, and I hope others can have fun doing it. For my genius hour I am making a show called ‘The Big Dumb’. The first episode will be released on the 18th of December. This show is starring: Leo, Amelia, Sam, Tom, Noah and Bianca (Me) The hardest part of the show was definitely figuring out what the names of the characters would be and who we were going to have in the show. The best part was being able to film with people and having a good laugh. Stanley, 5/6S For my first genius hour I was building a Popsicle stick house it was really good I made it with hot glue but then I got bored of making a Popsicle stick so I had a break I couldn’t come up with anything for the next couple of weeks. Then my teacher suggested to do a book review I made one on “Tomorrow When the War Began.” Then I didn’t like the idea of that. So then I went onto helping other people with their genius hour. What I’ve learnt is sometimes it’s hard to come up with an idea.

STUDENT / COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

NYE Parade and Gala-31st Dec 2019 Just wanting to remind everyone about the New Year’s Eve Parade -This year we are hoping that lots of families will come to Vincent Street to celebrate the night from 6 pm onwards. We will be having fun activities, food and entertainment for all the family. So make a night of it and celebrate the New Year as only Daylesford knows how!

Kids don’t forget that there is a section in the parade for the best decorated bike so get out the glitter and get decorating! There are fabulous prizes to be won.

Parents we are also looking for volunteers to help out in the street for a couple of hours before the parade. There is a lot to do in the 6-8pm time slot so if you have some

time we would love your help.

Floats and bikes for the parade will start to assemble in Duke St. from 7.00pm onwards and

the parade heads off at 8 pm.

We hope you can attend this fun community event

With thanks for your anticipated support, if you would like to contact us about this event please call Catherine Davies 0434353149, Regards NYE committee
